Oh, well if you are doing the whole thing that is different. I thought you were just doing the keyboard part. That will be pretty cool. Do you do this for a living or something?

That's pretty badass. I would have made it chrome to match the trackpad border

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

That's thinking outside the ol' box...very creative.  I wonder if you had some 'glow in the dark' material if it would help with locating keys when typing in an unlighted or dimly lighted situation.  The material could be recharged just by almost closing the lid for a minute using the screen to get the material glowing again.

Cheers

I like this idea! Definitely sounds promising if someone tries it!

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

i can order glow in the dark material, but i dont think they make it into a thin enough material. i will look into it and let you all know. not too sure if it will be bright enough to see keys, but we'll give it a shot.

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

no removal needed at all. its perfectly measured to just lay on and has 3M self adhesive backing. (silver and gold only have the 3M backing)

Don't the screen backlights turn off when you close the lid?

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

Can we have a pic of your lid theme you keep mentioning, too?

Great work! How is typing with it on it, do you notice it? Does it slow you down?

Does it leave residue on removal?

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

no interference at all. its a thin plastic material. the 3M backing materials (gold and  silver) dont leave any residue if removed. any other color and i have to hand lay some special tape that does leave a little residue but is easily cleanable. typing is just as it would be without. this is just a quick cosmetic change that really stands out and makes your 1000HE original.

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

Can you scan in the skin and have it scaled up in a PDF? (or just a regular scan is good too, I can scale it myself)
So that we can do the same by bringing it into our local trophy shop too, if it isn't too much trouble.
Thanks!

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

Man that is what ASUS is missing, with a brushed metal keyboard skin the Asus looks $300 better^^

Combine it with a good cover skin, and you got it made!

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

Very nice work.

Please clarify...you described the overlay in one of your posts as a thin piece of plastic.

Are your brushed silver/aluminum examples metallic overlays or are they simulated thin plastic designed to mimic a brushed matte aluminum appearance?  If metallic, what process are you using to punch the key holes in your overlay?

Out of curiosity, exactly how thick is the overlay?  Can you put a set of calipers on one and post an exact gauge?

Thanks.  Again, good work.  I'd be interested to see if you'd end up making a custom limited run on these in the future.  Perhaps a limited "group buy" may be a mutually good idea for you and some of us other HE owners?

Keep us in the loop.

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

its a plastic material that mimics brushed aluminum. it is a little less than 1/32 of an inch thick so it does not get in the way of the keyboard. i think im going to make a few silver and gold and put them on ebay tomorrow just to see how they do. all i did was take the time to measure all the keys and gaps perfectly in corel draw program and the laser cuts out exactly where i drew up the cut out lines. took a long time to get all the measurements perfect but it was well worth it. im sure this site would be against me putting a link to my ebay auctions when ii get it up so i will just let you know when and if i do it. just search 1000he and im sure you will find it since there arent too many pages for 1000he speciffically.

Re: 1000HE keyboard skin

dude i gotta say the red looked bunk but the brushed one looks really good. like id-buy-it good.

EDIT: nice work btw. looks like you did a good job measuring. did you waste a lot of sheets getting it right?
