Today my friend just got his 1000HE after seeing my 1000H in action. I was able to "borrow" his keyboard for a little bit to test compatibility.
And the verdict is...... Its totally compatible; however, Asus added a few extra metal tabs toward the bottom, and the lock clips at the top of the Keyboard are not as wide as the lock clips on the 1000H.
Everything works, including the second Fn key. All thats left now is to find a 1000HE keyboard on ebay, and rip the extra tabs off the bottom.
BTW, just wanted to say thanks to the people responsible for the ACPI scripts, wonderful job!

Sorry, think I might've pulled something.... Drooled a little too....
But seriously, what's the odds/eta on us techno-morons getting a step-by-step on that we might actually pull off? I mean, with the full multi-key swap, typing's fine but navigation's still a little annoying. I honestly never realized how addicted I was to the page up/down and home/end keys OR how much I relied on those little blue indicators on which was which before. LOL. I mean, the faster processor's cool, and I gotta admit that the extra 2 hr battery-life's nifty but that actual, KEYBOARD is what has me turning green. IWANT-IWANT-IWANT-IWANT-IWANT!!!!!!
*koff, koff*
Sorry. Anyone else need a napkin? I've got extras and I'm willing to trade for an ace bandage:)

Well come on eBay get some keyboards up for sale!!!
Offline
I do have pictures of the keyboards, but replacement is very simple, there are 4 locking clips at the top of the keyboard that you need to release, and other than that, its more or less a standard swap.
I dont have time to write a tutorial on the replacement, maybe someone else can get to that once we have keyboards available on ebay. I just wanted to confirm the functionality of the HE keyboard running in the 1000H.
Well, everyone, enjoy!!!
Offline
So does the HE keyboard fit in with perfectly with no moving around or anything?
If so im so getting one for my 1000h.
Offline
No, the keyboard has some more small aluminum tabs along the bottom just like the 1000H, except there are 2 extra tabs, and I noticed that the top locking clips on the 1000H are a bit wider than the 1000HE.
I wasn't about to destroy my friends 1000HE keyboard but im sure its nothing a dremel couldn't handle. I plan on using a dremel, and maybe some double sided adhesive just like Asus used originally, but again, we have to wait for keyboards start showing up on ebay.
Anyway, have fun moddin'

Are these on sale anywhere yet? I'll buy one and try out a full replacement.

I hate to bring everyone down, but... this didn't work for me.
(Let me say, right up front, that I'm working with a 904HA, not a 1000H -- but my understanding was that those models used the same keyboard. If I'm wrong, then disregard this post.)
I rolled the dice on a pair of the 04GOA0U2KUS10-3 keyboards (the ones at the estore.asus.com URL), for me and my wife. I just received them, and tried one on my 904HA. As the OP said, it looks like it will fit in fine if I snip off the extra tabs on the bottom. But when I tested, all of the keys (including right Shift and right Fn) worked fine -- EXCEPT for the "0" (zero), "P", ";" and "/" keys, which appear to do nothing at all. I tried them with and without NumLock on, and in a few different applications (including one that reports what key I'm pressing), and those four keys appear to be simply dead.
I tried re-seating the cable, and tried using the second 04GOA0U2KUS10-3 in case the first one was a dud -- no luck.
I'm bummed out over this, because I much prefer the new keyboard to the old.

I'm pleased to say that I did not share kviri's experience - my 1000HE keyboard arrived today and it's working ok (electronically at least). Everything appears to function. Just have to see what kind of modification it needs to fit in there. I'll return with more pics..
Thanks for the link to the Asus store!

Huge box for a keyboard. Got more than my money's worth for the $5 shipping cost.
Mixed (pea)nuts
Buried in there is one little keyboard and a packing slip.
The prize
My primary reason to want a swap. the dreaded arrow up instead of shift key
reverse
I removed the 'H keyboard and connected the 'HE for test - works!
'HE keyboard has these 2 nubs in addition to the metal tabs at the bottom
Better comparison - 'H keyboard on bottom, 'HE on top.
At the top, there is a layer on top of the base, looks like it would prevent the computer's clips from securing the top of the keyboard.
I'm going to put some thinking in to this. Don't want to ruin my prize -

thats EXACTLY the kind of comparison pic i wanted to see.
thanks for that and keep us informed! :)

hmm thanks for being a trail blazer on this... can't wait to see how this all turns out! Then to replicate the process myself!
Offline
TOO EASY!
Tool of choice to cut the nubs - a nibbler. Cuts little bites of metal, plastic, etc.
Nibbler hacked the extra tabs right off. Turns out they are plastic, could have done it with nail clippers.
I filed off the rest of the plastic from the tabs left by the nibbler.
Now what about the top edge? What am going to do about that? Let's test fit and see what needs to be done above the numbers....
Connected the ribbon cable, and gave it one try for luck. AND IT SNAPPED RIGHT IN like it was made for it. No other mods needed.
There are two other catches on the right & left sides. I noticed this when closing the cover and saw how it would not close all the way. Push in on the left shift and right Fn keys - snaps in.
That's it. Woo hoo, and to think I was really going to sell off the 'H just to get a 'HE. Sorry that I got the last one for now, I see that Asus store is saying "out of stock".
Thanks for all the great advice on the forum, glad I could give something back!

What bios are you using?
Offline
BIOS is 1803
Played with the Fn keys - both Fn keys work
Working:
F1 sleep mode
F2 toggles Wifi/Bluetooth
F5 brightness down
F6 brightness up
F7 turn off screen
F9 opens task manager
F10 mute
F11 volume down
F12 volume up
Num Lock
Space bar performance
Page up
Page down
Home
End
Not Working (some could be Windows 7 ACPI Related, never chased it down)
F3 touchpad toggle (pop up shows, does nothing)
F4 Resolution (pop up shows, does nothing)
F8 Display? Does nothing

So, I'm confused.
I have a 1000HA and the right shift key is the right of the PgUp key. I noticed that the keyboard
being talked about here has the right shift key to the left.
The position of my current right shift key is the biggest complaint I have about the HA. Will this
replaceable keyboard work on my 1000HA?
Thanks,
Paul

Huh. Well, good! I'm glad to hear that it's not a doomed endeavor. Was I wrong in assuming that the 904HA keyboard wiring was the same as the 1000H? I'd always thought that they were the same. Or could it be a BIOS issue?
As it turns out, there's a happy ending for me, as well. A friend of mine was interested in my 904HA, so she's buying it off of me and I'm upgrading to a 1000HE (for keyboard, screen and Bluetooth). She's less picky about keyboards then I am -- as proven by the fact that she willingly uses a 701 and typing on one of those drives me berserk. ![]()

I'd say $15 is worth it for that sweet kb. I'll be ordering one once they are in stock.

Kviri, right on helping out another 701 owner (I started with an 8G...), do you still have your HE keyboards? There may be a couple of buyers here . . .
Ohoh7 - I don't see why not, isn't the HA just a 1000H without bluetooth?

GOOD ON YOU BAROVELLI!!!!
im soooo doing this asap (when they hit ebay ofcourse)
