Just got my 1000he today, and the touchpad and buttons were not responding at all out of the box. I've double checked everything I know to double check in the device manager as far as drivers and stuff, but I still can't get it to do anything.
Anyone have any suggestions? ![]()

call asus. should work straight out the box.

There is an F key to disable the touchpad. Did you tried it first?

Yep, tried turning it on and off a few times, didn't make a difference. I guess I'll call Asus tomorrow and see what they say.

It has come to my attention that this problem only affects people named Josh. Count me in as having the same exact issue.

Mine is working however occasionally a rectangular area emerges that shows an enlarged portion of the screen.
I have no clew why it happens.
May be it is an extra, useful feature which I might like to be able to contol.
Does anyone know more about this feature?

Yeah, that's the Magnifier tool. It's standard on the Wind. I think it is made by Microsoft.
If I recall correctly, putting one finger on the touchpad and tapping with another enables it, but I could be mistaken.

Double tap the second finger

Yeah, that's right! I just did it. I didn't realise my 1000HA had it, too. Double-clicking also closes it. And using the arrows changes the size of the window.

if you double click the little touchpad icon on the taskbar, or fetch it up in the device manager you can click the far right tab labeled 'elantech' and it will explain all the little finger gestures that you can do.
you can even customize some of them like setting up swipes (three fingers left or right to be forward or backward for example) or three finger taps and two finger taps. if you allow the taskbar icon to be 'active' it will actually show you when it registers multiple fingers for multifinger taps. ive found it helpful in figuring out how it likes to be touched. (sounds kinda kinky)
handy stuff.
EDIT: or you can disable them individually if you find you are doing one or more of them accidentally and producing unwanted results. i wonder sometimes how many people that fuss about the touchpad are simply inadvertently gesturing these 'higher functions' and could just disable them if they realized it.
