i believe a touchscreen costs less than $100
I installed one on my 17inch lcd before.

It's not that expensive. Look for sites that cater to embedded industrial or media machines such as kiosk makers, etc.

if someone did this, wouldnt it be easier for internal mods. because if you have a touchscreen there isnt much use for a touch pad. but how does 'right' click?

He says in the video he got in on Ebay, for approx $60 and it was a replacement 7" color screen
I looked on Ebay and didn't really find one, but searching on Google I found plenty for right around $100. Seems to be more common that you'd think.
Here's a link to one: http://www.digitalww.com/store/proddetail.asp?prod=TS7K

I am sorry I don't have more details and he's in Finland so it's hard to catch up with him.
To right-click on a touch screen (in Windows, anyway) you hold down the stylus for a second and a a little circle draws around the point. When the circle is done drawing, the right-click registers.

I have a toughbook with a touchscreen, I thought it was really cool when I got it but it is just not real practical to use, just about any other input device works better, you have to take your hand off of the keyboard pick up a stylus, perform function drop stylus, return hand to keyboard, with a mouse or trackball move pointer click return hand, if you use a finger instead of a stylus, your accuracy becomes highly diminished.
just my experiences

Woah! I wonder how difficult that would be to get that working in Linux?

on my Lilliput, I use my fingernail to tap the screen. Not straight on, but like your flicking it. Deadly accuracy
LMAO!

Touchscreens can work excellently when they're applied to the right application, for example this year I've been testing some tannoy announcement software where controlling it using a touchscreen is the perfect input device - all you have to do is press on the screen the parts of the building layout where you want the message to play then press the sound button.
But for general day-to-day control of a windows environment a mouse or touchpad doesn't get your arm as tired as using a touchscreen.

You would only need to do some searching for xorg.conf and touch screen. this would yield up the information you seek.
