I have an early version of Eeebuntu that incorporates the following into a full Ubuntu live cd:
Madwifi drivers installed
Asus ACPI (function keys working)
Fonts: 8 size
Compiz adjusted to allow windows past the top
intel drivers for sykpe (have not tested)
alt-f10 (allows any window to be full screen)
Here is the download link:

Please be easy with the link. My bandwidth is limitied.
Please let me know if anything is not working or if you have any suggestions.

I look forward to trying it! (ETA 2:28:11. :-) I've been using a stock Ubuntu install plus benob's scriptpack (http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=4066) but it's pretty unreliable about booting and about suspending (although quite reliable while it's actually up and running), so I'd love to see whether your tweaks are a bit more stable.
I assume your live CD supports installing to SSD with the EeePC support in place, right?

How is this different from the eeeXubuntu project? Can you sum up some main differences.
I'll mirror the .iso for you, by the way :-) Expect it up within some hours.

I have not tried the suspending as I do not use a swap partition. I have the start up daemons on my setup to allow it to bootup within 30 seconds or so. So I can not verify that it will work. I will look further into it and see what I can do with suspending.

@garretwp
Any chance of uploading a torrent for this, might help to keep ease the bandwidth issues you might have.
Thanks.

I don't either; I've been trying (with mixed success) to suspend to RAM rather than hibernate to swap. (I imagine hibernating to swap would be a bit more reliable since the machine is 100% off while it's hibernated. I may create a swap partition next time I install for that reason; if I end up not needing it I can move /home there and preserve my home directory across a reinstall.)

Here is a torrent:
Edit: torrent taken down as it was not working for me as a test download. Will look into the torrent file later.
I hope that works as I have not messed with creating torrents much.

Another reason for not trying suspending is that I have heard mixed reviews of doing odd things with usb devices. I have my home directory on an sdhc card in the machine.

Quoting myself.
Also, here is a mirror: http://www.lildragon.eu/eeebuntu_files/

Can anyone confirm that the release is working for them? I.e. wireless is working ok?

Epo,
This is a Ubuntu version that is running gnome. It is the full live cd. I am trying to work on a slimmed down version of ubuntu that will have the bloat applications (open office removed). But for now, I wanted to offer a Ubuntu full live cd with the wireless drivers, function keys etc working. Then the user can decide what they want to keep for software and uninstall via apt-get or synaptic.

Sorry guys and gals. I have to remove the eeebuntu image from my site. I did a couple trial installs and the wireless drivers have not worked correctly after the install. It did work fine when I first tried it. But a few reinstalls of the live cd produces a nonworking wireless. I will try and get a new image working as soon as I can. I apologize.

Well everyone, I have a working live cd that the wireless drivers are now working as they should. I have installed it and it works out of the box. Here is the link:

Please let me know if there are any problems and also let me know if the wireless works for you.

hi Garret,
can you let me have the files to modify the iso image so I dont have to downlaod a cd image once more, freeing up bandwidth?
Thanks

A diff file would be good, so I'm doing that soon.
Gonna mirror at http://stealthcp.ath.cx/files/linux/eeepc/eeebuntu/ which will contain iso folder and patch too. I'll give a bell once it's ready.

I'll mirror it too, at http://lildragon.eu/eeebuntu_files/ I'll edit this post when it's ready.
Stealth: What patch are you talking about? What does it do? How big will it be?

I modified the live cd using reconstructor. I compiled the wifi drivers from source and used parts of the script pack from benob. I also added other small adjustments to allow for a smoother install. I.e allowing you to move the windows past the top, you can also use alt f11 to full screen any window. This helps a lot with the installer. If anyone is willing to test it out and let me know if it works for them, it would be greatly appreciated. I just wanted to give another option to everyone on this board and make it painless as possible for a good linux experience.
Enjoy!

Installed it to an SD card, and wireless is working, but Ubuntu complained about Restricted Drivers. I enabled it, and then wireless worked.
It looks pretty sweet, but I have the feeling eeeXubuntu (rc2) is a little snappier, which makes sense because of the difference between XFCE4 and Gnome.
Great work!

How big is it on your SDHC card? Have you tried installing the KDE desktop? I pine for Kubuntu ... and hope this may be a easy way to get there.
BTW did you see an issue on the eeeX thread about the Kernel update taking out the function keys again?
Offline
My SD card is 4GB, and I alotted about 400MB for swap. The fresh install takes about 2,1GB.
About the update issue: untill it's addressed, I'll just not update my eeebuntu install. :-)

Suspend doesn't work. When I choose suspend at the shutdown menu, the screen goes black, and the LEDs change: Power LED blinks, and Battery LED is full (because it's plugged in), so so far so good.
When I press the power button, the LEDs go as they were: power led full, battery led full, wireless led full - but nothing happens.

Glade to see that the wireless is working. The install will be around 2.1GB but that is because I have not removed any software. I wanted to leave that to the user. They can decide on what they want to remove and install. Everyone wants something different. I can make a script that you can run after the install that will remove the heavy weight software (i.e. openoffice, evolution, etc).
Are the restricted drivers required? If not, I can look into removing the request for installing the restricted drivers.
eeexubuntu will run a little snappier as it is a light weight desktop. As much as I like xfce, I find that I miss some of the features that gnome offers.

I forgot to answer about the suspend. I have heard many mixed things about suspend working with usb devices. Does it work in eeexubuntu? Suspending with a usb device being mounted as either the system or a home directory would cause it to not come back after sleep. If it does indeed work fine with eeexubuntu, I will look further into a fix.
