Windows 7 install

I just got Windows 7 version 7000 (open beta) installed on my 1000H and here are the details on what drivers to use.

ACPI
Used the ACPI drivers posted in the sticky (http://rapidshare.com/files/181422571/A … Driver.zip)
Got no errors, all Fn buttons work, including brightness and volume. They also display the fancy graphic showing the change in volume or brightness.
Caps lock does not show the message, nor num lock.
Audio has no errors resuming from standby or hibernate.
Edit:
Brightness keys dont do anything after resuming from hibernate. Just show the graphic changing. Sound does work.

Wireless
Installed the latest Ralink drivers for the 2860/2890 card. I just installed the drivers, not the Ralink utility that comes with it.

LAN
Used the Asus drivers from the EEEPC CD

Sound
Works using W7 drivers. Headphone jack tested. Fn+Volume keys worked.

Video
used the latest Intel driver for the 945GM chipset. Install in Vista compatibility mode. There are no 1024x768 resolutions at all.

Webcam
Works using W7 drivers. Tested using Messenger Live.

Microphone
Tested using Speech Recognition software from windows.

USB
Works. Tested with external DVD drive and USB key drive.

SD card reader
Works. Tested using SDHC card with photos.

Touchpad
Works using W7 drivers. Double touch works by default too.

Super Hybrid Engine
Used the Asus CD. Power profiles worked as verified by ZCPU.

Instant Keys
Used the Asus CD. Power profile changer doesn't work, but doesn't display any errors. Resolution changer works (change to 800x600) half way. Doesnt change to 1024x600.
Edit: after a reboot, the key to change power profiles work.

Bluetooth
Once you install the eeepc tray utility, enable wireless and bluetooth. W7 uses its own drivers. Tested with a BT mouse.

eeepc tray utility
Used Asus CD. Tested all settings. 1024x768 shortcut does not work.

Antivirus
Using Avast free version.

Patches

Installed the mp3 fix patch.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta … laylang=en

As for how does W7 work. Its awesome. Very responsive, very fast, all of the Aero features work and fast. And this is the Ultimate version, which is bloated.
Battery meter shows 5 hrs with 100% charge, wifi and BT on, 6.45 hrs with wifi and BT off playing mp3s.
Of course this will go down faster based on use.

Let me know if I missed something.

Re: Windows 7 install

I just upgraded to Win7. I did an upgrade and everything from Vista carried over without any problems. Skype needed an update. Went smooth and easy.

Win7 uses less space on the hard drive then Vista by several GB. It is very peppy as well. Battery at 99% said 4 hours 14 mins, with WIFI on, Bluetooth off and brightness at 25%.

Do you think it is safe to keep this build 7000? I am not hearing many complaints/issues about W7. I could not wait for thie final release.

It is not a final release.  It is a BETA.  Microsoft is giving it to you as guinea pigs.  Install at your own risk.  Final release will be end of 2009.

The current BETA is downloadable from Microsoft.  It is build 8000x

Re: Windows 7 install

One thing Ive found about Vista and W7 is that the Power Profiles need a lot of tinkering.

The SuperHybridEngine changes the CPU speed but doesnt do much for the 20 options in Vista/W7.

Id suggest taking a look at those Advance options, and modifying the Balanced or Power User profile.
For example, WIFI adapter can be set to half power while on balanced profile. This could lead to driving people nuts because their wifi doesnt work right anymore.

I don't know for the most of you but my wireless card range improved since I start using windows 7. I'm comparing this to my previous Vista install.

Re: Windows 7 install

Hi! This is my 1st post here. I installed the public beta yesterday. Pretty simple and fast. Almost perfect!!!

There is some confusion when searching for information about windows 7 and the 1000H because I guess this new beta has some changes from the previous ones. And most info available right now refers to the previous betas...

My experience:

- I notice BT was working but I installed the CD version on top. Maybe it's worthless... Don't know if I gained something.
- Just today I noticed the ACPI problem and installed the fixed ACPI
- I have a 2,2 index. Buaaaahh!!! Why?
- I didn't install the Intel video drivers because windows told I was installing an older version. Should I?

So for me, my only complaints are: 1024x768 thing, Poor index, and not knowing for sure what versions to install, namely graphics. The rest is top notch!

Default resolution is 1024x600, as that is what the monitor reports.
Problem is, the default monitor doesnt show 1024x768 as supported, so we may need a driver for it, instead of using a generic monitor.

Drivers should have taken care of that, but didnt. Not the W7 and not the Intel ones.

Thats because 1024x768 is an ASUS driver mode that uses scrolling to simulate that resolution on a screen that ONLY actually does 1024x600

Asus G2S-a1 3gig 7200 200 gig HDD
Asus EEE 702 8G (16 gig from 900 inside) smile=(changed to RUNCore 16)
Asus EEE 900 2 SLC drives 4 gig fixed 8gig from the 8G (8 changed to 32 faster)

Re: Windows 7 install

I installed W7 today, and I tried the Intel Vid. driver, I lost the Aero interface, and the graphics appeared to be not as good as with the W7 driver. I don't have my Restore DVD with me, so I'm unsure of which LAN driver to use, I down loaded the latest version from Asus, and it doesn't seem to be compatible with W7, I get an error, but the installation is a success, and in the Devices under management Ethernet is still flagged as '?'.

besides that, I get the Intel ACPI  error after a few minutes of restarting, so I'm not sure which ACPI driver to use.

regarding programs; funny enough, the only program that is crashing consistantly is Windows Messenger Live, lol. M$ for you eh!

All in all I am quite satisfied with W7, and I can already see the subtlle changes made in the UI  that make this a better OS that the crippled Vista.

When I installed the Intel driver, there was a check box to run something specific for the Aero interface. I had it checked.
Also, you can go to the Computer properties (Start, right click/properties on Computer) and rerun the experience index or something there. I just did that on Vista for my desktop right after installing the ATI drivers, and got Aero running.

The ACPI driver is the one I posted. I dont get any errors. Used to get an error from intel, but went away when I installed the hotkeys software and SHE software.

Re: Windows 7 install

The only thing I hate about win 7 is that there are some software compatibility issues.
I've had a  a few programs not work for me.

For me, Memeo auto-backup not working is  kind of a turn off.

But the rest was amazing.

So if MS's auto-backup would be easier to use and had the abillity to actually be a "Time Machine" like software, then I would switch back to win 7 beta.

So for now, back to xp.
