Add shoulder strap to your EEEPC!!

This is just step ONE of an upcoming mod.
Enjoy!

Be sure that if you do this, to use  low profile or flat head screws, or you will have some space issues.

@ Lasertech , is the BackTrack decal on th lid a sticker or did you paint it on? If a sticker/skin where did you get it from?

I had a local company that does vinyl skins for automobiles do it, they charge me $25 for any logo or anything.

Re: Add shoulder strap to your EEEPC!!

Man if anybody actually uses that usb strap you deserve your broken EEE that your sure to get out of it when you have it fall and break or just destroy the usb ports.

This was a good mod, but I would get annoyed with the strap there when I work, and taking it off to use it would be more annoying to me than just placing it in & out of a bag.  I got the Case Logic Medium E-Sling now and it would essentially be the same thing but with more protection (both for the unit itself for scratches & stuff, and for theft) plus there is a pocket just big enough for the power brick.

Nice. With that skin it's ideal for carrying to your local 2600 meet, if you're into such things wink

A clever mod, but it looks far to much like a handbag.

Re: Add shoulder strap to your EEEPC!!

I can't say I've seen a handbag looking like that, I'd prefer it to a bag that looks like a handbag/manbag wink

I used to have a jacket with a large internal pocket which would've been perfect for a 701, I'd like to find a similar jacket now smile

my 900 fits (just) into the pocket of my overcoat, so no need for a 'manbag' or anything else that shouts "mug me please".

Re: Add shoulder strap to your EEEPC!!

Use the straps and hang the EEE under your coat, then throw your ALFA USB WiFi into a pocket and you are good to go.

Besides, when I am on a client's site and analyzing the network, the straps come in handy and not too many of the employees are up for mugging you.
And you could always have an empty pistol holster attached to the strap, let other people ponder about where or IF you have a pistol for it. wink

LOL, that reminds me of a person I knew.  He had an empty holster attached to his motorcycle.  You know, no one ever stole anything from his saddle bags!  People would always wonder where the gun was, and that it must be with the owner, who may just be on his way back!

Vinhtvu2:

I was going to do it so that you could carry the laptop in several different ways, but for my "in-process" mod/idea, this fits the bill for the moment.
Plus I don't thing there is room on the other side for it.

Re: Add shoulder strap to your EEEPC!!

Yeah, something about the Kensington lock doesn't seem strong enough (even though I know it should be) or that it would put too much stress on the hole (that's what she said) kind of rounding it out more through wear.

I like the bolted on method that you chose.

I do like the second one. All you used were screws? No reinforcement underneath it?

Re: Add shoulder strap to your EEEPC!!

I thought about using a steel plate to reinforce it, but after I got it back together initially and gave it a few "lasso" type swings around the office with no flexing or anything, I decided it was good.

Now if it was a full size notebook, the story would be different...
