Actually from what I understand it does, just not in the video hardware itself. It uses the CPU for software T&L. It sucks compared to hardware T&L but atleast it's supported.

Check this out

Yes. I believe this is correct from what im reading off of intel's GMA 900 page. Unfortunetly this is another task the already slow CPU has to handle.

I don't know what the people trying to get games like Doom 3 to run are smoking, but it must be some strong stuff lol

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Hi . I am enjoying Xcom UFO and Xcom Terror from the deep on the EEE. I just got Age of Myth to work and am going through the tutorial for it, great game to relive again on the EEE!

I am curious, has anyone gotten Master of Orion 2 or Heroes of Might and MAgic 2 to work? Or Grim Fandango? Those are some of my favorites smile

xcom ufo and xcom terror from the deep work at 800x480 res no problem.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

I am thinking about getting an EEE PC, but I'd like some of these games to run:

Request:
Stronghold (or Stronghold Crusader)
Star Wars:  Republic Commando
Rome Total War
Rappelz
Warrock

(all on Windows XP)

Thanks to any willing testers.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

I installed Diablo 2 & the expansion pack onto my main PC and applied a nocd crack, copied the install directory onto a USB stick and my EEE plays it perfectly. You don't need the hacked video drivers - if you run the game's executable with the "-w" switch on the command line it will run in a window. I hide the task bar and move the game window upwards slightly to get a (nearly) full screen.

What about Battlefield 1942? It's reported working in the start post, but no one confirmed actually.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Well, I'm not intended to play it online, so any version will comply. Just the standard version with no mods. I do also own the game myself, so I can try. But was curious somebody already has tried wink I wanted to try it right now, but then I realized BF1942 refuses to run on a PC with no cd/dvd drive (already tried before on another dvd-less pc). Also with no-cd patch. You can bypass that with Deamon tools, but I don't like such software on my EeePC wink

Now I'm downloading the single player demo to test it.

[edit] Bad luck with demo version. When starting I get an error about 'failed to create 3d device'. So I'm afraid the full version will also not work.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Worms Armageddon: Confirmed unplayable

I have tested Worms Armageddon and can confirm that it does not even load up.
This is tested on the standard 701 4G 512MB XP Pro
I cannot remember the error, but since others have reported the same problem its safe to assume that without significant hacking, this game will not play on the eee.

Tested under: (Internal Monitor)
Standard res 32bit/16bit
800x600 32bit/16bit
1024x768 32bit/16bit

That is not to say don't try it yourself.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Total Annihilation: Unplayable*  (Updated, playable)

Sadly TA will not load up, I have tried 3 executables.
The patched: Black Screen with messege in center "Error: Environment Initialization Failed! Check yout Directx setup"
The standard: Black Screen with messege in center "HAPI Environment Init Failed! (check yer screen depth)"
The cracked: (Same as patched)

Tested under: (Internal Monitor)
Standard res 32bit/16bit
800x600 32bit/16bit
1024x768 32bit/16bit

* I have not given up on TA just yet, im trying a few versions and different patch versions. I will edit this post or create a new one if I manage to get it working or give up.

TA is now working. 100% Slight Problem however, you have to initialy run it on an external monitor. Once the game is running, you can pull it out. Even having the external monitor running 800x600 works.
Im currently looking into this.

Total A works 100% (Hardware Wise) its just convincing it that there is an external monitor in, or getting around the poor asus drivers.

Re: The 'Does this game work in Windows' Thread

Grand Theft Auto 2: Confirmed Playable

This is the official rockstar version. To run the game it is best to create a shortcut to the GTA manager rarther than the game itself. This is because each time you fullscreen the game, it changes the default setting to fullscreen in the manager (It will not startup with this enabled)
Ensure your screendepth is 16bit and your are running it in windowed mode.
Once you hit the actual in game you can click the full screen button and enjoy the game.
Some scrolling is required if you want to view the mission text, other than that you can get away with the lost pixels at the bottom.

Tested under: (Internal Monitor)
Standard res 32bit/16bit (fails under 32) (auto resizes to 800x600)
800x600 32bit/16bit (fails under 32) (little bit of scrolling)
1024x768 32bit/16bit (fails under 32) (way to much scrolling)

speed it at 100% sound works 100% only issue is with the res (80%)

Total Annihilation:  Confirmed Playable

It runs perfectly with

this guys driver.

Grand Theft Auto 2: Confirmed Playable

It runs perfectly with
http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=5510
this guys driver.

but for decent speed you need to open up by the settings manager and change it to 640x windowed
the res will be the same and it will be fullscreen (oddly enough) but it will be fast.

Fallout 2: Confirmed Playable
