Hi,
I have a 1000H. If you check the keyboard the numbers "1" & "6" are in a circle and are inversed - i.e. Black number on white circle.
Any idea why this is so ?

There is NO answer ? Can't think why Asus would do that without making any logical sense for that.

So blind people could feel for them??

This is a bit of a guess and a bit crazy but maybe it's to help distinguish between the l and 1 and the G and 6 incase you don't know your kb.

@k_dermot I don't think so because they would have done the same for O and 0 and also B and 8

They are subliminal guides i think in low light settings, so you can see where 1 and 6 is (and thus the F keys above and the alphabet keys below) to more intuitively get your bearings on the keyboard.

I e-mailed ASUS yesterday with a picture.

Yeah...so should I tell her to ask R&D about it? lol

She seems trying to escape from blaming while having something couldn't be solved/explained. Maybe the "they" is referred to the designer. ![]()

You put your left pinky on the 1 and your right index finger on the 6 and you are easily able to go 1234567890

Then why not on the key 2 or 3 or others?

I think this explanation makes most sense, but let those other logical reasons flow in...makes merry reading ![]()

lol, perhaps its for easy password remembering, i.e. if u got the password set to "16" for example.![]()
btw these little ridges on the lower edge of the "f" and "j" keys are for easy finger alignment when typing afaik.
So the colored 1 and 6 must be for something else imo..

Call Mulder and Skully :-)
Seriously, now I think that the keyboard itself is not made by Asus, it's a generic keyboard produced by some OEM and may be thoses keys had a meaning on the first netbook constructor that asked for this keyboard and now other constructors like Asus used it also by they did not change the shape.

or maybe they put them there to get the biggest and most used eee comunity buzzing about a new product?
any press is good press in the media exposure world... no matter what we think "they" (meaning the key markings) acyually do we're still giving asus advertising ![]()
but more seriously it may be intented as simple marks for key indexing in low light situations since so many have complained about that, and some even modded keyboard lights.

Seriously - I think "they" just bought the keyboard in large quantity from a supplier who was making them for another company originally. So they get the cheapest buy but may have no idea about specs other than size and type of connector cable...
Ever thought about why eeePCs are rather low-priced wth its gadgets at that size?

i also believe its for low light situations but in the end i always hit the wrong keys since the keys don't reflect enough light
