Just wanted to let everyone know it comes with 512MB of ram, not 256MB.

I will buy this instead then! forget the crappy webcam and the larger battery...
There is one serious thing that would make me NOT buy this. can I boot windows xp pro from the ssd if its 2 gigs? how much space is free with linux install or nlited xp?
if I can run xp from it and everything else from a 50 dollar 8 gb ssd, it would be worth it!

It is not the 2g I think. The 2g is not supposed to have WireLess or Camera if I remember correctly....
And on the ad, it is told that it have both!

The 4 gig has a webcam and 4 gigs of ssd, the 2 gig surf has 2 gigs of ssd and no camera..... also a smaller battery.
btw, how much did it cost you? is it maintaining it's advertised price?

Welcome to the world of advertising in the US of A.
As you see by the ad (http://www.jr.com/images/callouts/160x75/eeePClg.jpg), it says Starting From $299.99* with a nice little asterisk. If you follow the white rabbit, or in this case the white asterisk, you will see all the way at the bottom "See Store for Details".
They get you in the store, and you can get the dumbed down version (less camera) for $299.99, oh you want a camera? That one is $399.99.

I wish they didn't give you a lower capacity battery. What's the difference in longevity between the Surf and Non-surf. ~30mins?

^^ x2 .. id buy the surf if the battery was 3.5 hr and the ram wasnt soldered on so i can upgrade. i dont care for the webcam

No idea, as I am giving it as a gift, I can't open it. But it is reportedly not socketed.

The ram isn't soldered, it's socketed, same as the 4g's. You just have to pull it apart to get to the socket as there isn't a backpanel.
