PLEASE READ THE WHOLE OF THIS THREAD BEFORE BUYING THIS PRODUCT - Niel1952
Aeeeris originally started as an idea then became a mod then a product.
Overview:
I've always wanted a UMPC or eReader but the ones out there go for around 1000USD and I didn't have that kind of money so I had this idea to turn a EEEPC 70x into a UMPC/eReader. Heck the EEEPC has the same specs and size but cost a whole lot less so why not do it? It was relatively easy to do with a Touch-screen kit so I set off to try it out.
This was the original mod I had done to my EEEPC, then I realized the potential it had to become great.
Now after months of stress and delays, I finally give to you the Aeeeris's faceplate and the complete product (minus speakers, TS and power button).

The inside of Aeeeris is compartmentalized for each component: LCD, LCD controller, Speakers, Touch-screen controller. Each component sits flush with the faceplate. The Touch-screen controller goes into the empty space located at the bottom right (hinges facing up when viewing at it).

Now I do owe you all an explanation to why there was such a delay in the launch date. The manufacture we used was Innovated Designs, they made the pattern and mold for us from my mod (first picture). Innovated Designs experienced a defection in their chemicals which puzzled all of us. They originally thought it was from the silicon or RTV silicon rubber. So they redid the mold a bunch of times. Pictures below show 2 different defected molds made. As you can see the silicon did not dry evenly (given 48 hours to dry) which greatly confused everyone.

Then they realized it was a defected bottle of Minwax Polyurethane that did not have the correct ratios of chemicals causing the uneven drying.
And that is basically my life in a nutshell for the past 3 months. I also had to code and flash the site by myself which was not fun considering I did it by hand and did not use Dreamweaver. I apologize for any uprising or arguments that occurred during this process as this was a very stressful time for me.
Anyone interested in purchasing an Aeeeris or would like to know more information can check out WWW.AEEERIS.COM
Thanks again for reading this post! Thanks to all that supported it! If you have any questions plz post on here!

Hey pvp, one question before I order. How do the original supporters go about getting the free shipping?
I was also wondering if there are holes for the screws or if they will just screw right into the faceplate...

good eye i can't seem to see any screw holes either, another question i have is how is the lcd cable going to reach the motherboard if the controller is in the bottom corner while the connector is closer to the top
EDIT: after actually measuring the cable it might just stretch its way there

Sweet - this mod could actually be a reason for me to acquire a 701 besides the 901 that I have.
Unless you're planning an Aeeeris 901
?

I knew you would eventually come through for us ![]()
I can only hope a 900/901 version is in the works?
Or I might even need a 1000 version depending on what EEE I buy next ![]()
Congratulations and well done on weathering the storm of abuse and complaints.
Good luck for the future.

Would you like me to slow down the pictures on there? If enough people say it's going too fast, i could also put a little bit more of a delay.
EDIT: I'm going to make a new tab to include a software download for the new Linux MID edition. Does anyone here know the site to download it? And also has anyone done any research on the onscreen keyboard addon (linux)?

Instead of linux... how about Windows?
Just use a front end that's more "touch" friendly....
I am researching CarPC and I think something like DashPC or RoadRunner would make a neat little front for the 701....
Now you better be making a 1000 edition soon!
Oh yeah, the flash on the site is great btw... But the installation pictures are too fast...

I also support for a 1000H edition! Hope to see it soon.

I want one for my 900, but attach the hinge at the top of the existing screen, so I can have it all folded up to use as a tablet, or open the stock screen alone, or fold it all open and have 2 screens - one above the other. maybe not the most practical, but cool none the less. It'd be even cooler if the second screen were removable.

why not just extend the hinge to wrap it under and flip for tablet mode if you're going to do all that.
excelent work PvP... i was worried as to how it would look. you really hit one out of the park with that unit

then you couldn,t open it and use only one screen, and it would block the cooling vents

Can I get your opinions on the site? I coded it by hand so I want to know if it's easily accessible. What needs to change. What's good about it. Etc. Detailed descriptions would be most helpful for me.

First and foremost, lose the music and sound effects. You're trying to attract businesses - remember back in the nineties when every other page had a looped midi in the background?
You also have to go easier on the flash. It looks nice; a lot of it looks wonderful. The site menu flash is great, for instance, and most of the picture flash (like on the installation page) looks wonderful. The tile-scrolling pictures like on the home page, though, those are annoying. They don't just scroll too fast; the tile transition looks like a windows slideshow effect. It wouldn't be so bad if the images were manually scrolled through. I say slap a couple buttons on there (if not a filmstrip), implement a simpler and more professional-looking transition and let the users examine the pictures as quickly or slowly as they want.
edit: What you've got on your "History of Aeeeris Tablet" page is exactly what I'm talking about.
Speaking of which, many of the pictures you have desperately need to be retaken. Crisp, high-resolution images which could be manually scrolled through and zoomed into would be ideal, and it would make your website and your product much more pleasant to consider.
You've also got your fair share of bad copy: "Smaller businesses do not have the extra money to buy these even though they do produce higher productivities. "
I could make a big list of suggestions, if you'd like. I'm no professional, but I am a graphic design major, so at least I can pretend that I am. To be honest, I'm very interested in what you're doing here. I would certainly like to see one of these puppies on my Eee, with some minor modifications.

will there be a speaker grill, that protects the speakers ?
I see that there are just holes for you to fit them in, with no protection of the cone, this means they can be easily damaged ![]()

As one of the people who was disappointed by the way you presented the product and kept us "updated", I would like to say congrats on finishing it.
It doesn't look like something I will be buying as I can't live with just using the touchscreen for input, but it seems like it is perfect for some people. Ideally of course I'd prefer a tablet configuration for myself, but I realize the difficulties in that.
One thing on the website that hasn't been covered yet, as I agree with the suggestions so far, is the format doesn't display properly on a 701 screen, which is ironic if that is who your audience is. There is no side to side scrollbar and the right side of the text is clipped. Other than the fact that I hate Flash and music on sites you did a good job for being under the gun. Definitely have someone write the copy who uses English as their first language, it will go a long way in adding credibility to the site/product. Hi-res pix too, there are jaggies in the current pix.
Good luck.

i agree about the pics... the slide show and tile effect is annoying, mainly because it draws my attention while tring to read the info. i'd kill the music too
