Hello world,
After I finally received my 901 GO ordered from cyberport.de yesterday, I met with big disappointment, when I measured my SSD's performance.
Whereas eeepc.it reported reading speeds of up to 90 MB/s and writing speeds of up to 50 MB/s on the Italian version...
source: http://www.eeepc.it/en/recensione-eeepc … benchmark/
...my 901 GO reaches only 37 MB/s while reading and 10 MB/s while writing.
So obviously there are very different SSD-version in the market. This is a photo of my slow SSD:
I heard the slower SSD also to be seen in Italy. Would be interesting, where the 901 GOs with fast SSDs are available and how to see that from the box.
regards,

Hi inquisitor,
sorry for your discovery :-(
Tonight I will have a look at my Italian TIM 901GO and report my results and some details about the installed SSD

Dang, I was already considering a 901 GO from cyberport.
There are now several variants of the 901 on the market; the original, the one with a larger capacity battery and, perhaps, a fast SSD equipped version, and nearly no way of telling them apart... I'm not exactly confident the online stores are able to notice the bigger battery and state if they have them. There should be a clear way of telling apart refreshes such as these!

I purchased a standard eee 900 / Linux in a shop in Norway for a few weeks ago.
It looks like it has the identical same SSD with chips Samsung and Phison and same numbers and marking.
The measured datas is not very high, but the PC performs wery well, and it is quite fast after some nlightment and fat32.

Here I am with the result of my EeePC 901 GO from TIM Italia (one single 16 GB SSD) with CrystalDiskMark 2.2 (3 test with 50MB setting):
85.98 Seq Read

83.33 512K Read
37.64 512K Write

I have a 901 supplied by Orange UK (built in mobile broadband) and my results are:
86.85 31.87
82.61 31.08
12.53 1.686
Offline
I also have the orange UK version which seems to be as follows:
81,11 40.12
78.85 32.42
11.58 1.626
I guess thats within the error bounds.
Interestingly the model number on the disk is different to what you state above. It is an :
S4 SSD rev 1.1
Is there anything mounted in the primary SSD slot in these HSDPA units? Seems a waste if it is empty.
p.s. my unit has the old 6600 battery.

Only downside is the absence of bluetooth module and the 2 year contract which is pretty lengthy... Pleased with mine though and the fast ssd is a great bonus.

My new EEE 901 20GB Linux (Now Windows) is fcking slow:
8.482 7.562
9.304 1.571
6.853 0.013
Is it possible to increase this? The computer takes ages to load, and the webbrowser freezes for 5 minutes for every page I load and disk indicator is blinking constantly.

Yes, and Hello Nissefar !
1. Follow the wiki for making an nlited XP. This will bring down the installation volume to less than a GB when the swap file is disabled.
2. Install using FAT32 and not ntfs.
After this installation mu slow EEE 900 (Bought Ekspert Stavanger centre) my 900 16 GB initially boots in less than 20 seconds. After all kind of extra programs and updates it is now 2.5 Gb big and boots in 40 seconds. I guess your 901 might be sligtly faster (?). Please leave a report so I eventually can make a new visit to Ekspert Elektrocenter.

Inquisitor, you right, the Italian version is faster than others and TIM stores' rumors say from 1st genuary the 901go in Italy will be sold with a 32gb SSD SLC instead the 16gb

Heya neighbour!
Thanks for the reply.
I found a solution to the problem....
I (accidentially) installed Windows XP (original version) on the 15 GB SSD.... Today I reinstalled Windows on drive C (first ssd, 4GB) and created the FS to FAT32... Works like a dream now! Bought my EEE 901 on MPX.no btw ( I think it's slightly cheaper than Expert).

Living in France, I wanted to buy an EEEPC 901GO "operator free". I bought it from Germany, hoping the excellent performances seen on the review of Italy..
Disapointed at least!!!
My results on this 901GO 16GB SSD
33.92 8.72
33.68 2.09
6.82 0.02
On my good old 701 (remember??)
26.35 16.25
30.17 8.19
7.94 0.10
And on a 900 with a 32GB MyDigital SSD
42.25 18.82
41.87 3.63
5.76 0.06
As I'm crazy, I have ordered a new RunCore 64GB SSD ...
I will let you know the results
(btw I'm scared to check the battery model on the 901GO...)

Hi Giampi,
I've decided to have a look : 6600 mAh !!!

I think there is no 901 GO with bigger battery yet. Actually the rumours about the 901 GO with a 8700 mAh-battery started when blogeee.net first headlined "Des batteries 8700 mAh dans les nouveaux EeePC 901 16 Go ?" and several non-francophone readers obviously didn't realize "Go" is the French abbreviation for gigabyte, but thought that headline concerned the 901 GO, which actually wasn't the case.

The 901 Go sold in Finland has the fast SSD too. Also a 6600 mAh battery. My 901 Go is the type 901GO-ELS-BK01.
The 8700 mAh battery comes on another 901 model, the BK051X with a 16 GB drive.

I asked the german linuxshop (http://www.linux-onlineshop.de/) whether their version of the EEE-PC 901Go (3G) has the fast SSD and they send me the following picture of it:
http://antec2.dyndns.org/~coolens/IMG_0003.jpg
can anyone tell me whether this is the fast or the slow SSD?

Without absolute certainty and to be treated with due care, but I *think* it is more reasonable to assume this is the fast one. Handle with care, though, it might be that asusparts do not sell the fast one at all (just two slow variants).
Check Asusparts.eu, it's listed right at the top at the time I write this. Unlike the pic reported in one of the earliest posts above, which was reported to belong to a slow SSD (p/n 60-OA00RS2000-A41, the second one listed on the Asusparts site)
Edit: revised earlier conclusions after adding up all the info in this thread... (sorry if I confused some of you, my fault)
