1000HA bluetooth header

Would any owners of the 1000HA mind enlightening as to the existence of a bluetooth header on the mobo or not.  I'd really like to order a white HA, but I cant give up any usb ports or be forced to take a dongle with me, not to mention having a hardware off switch is a huge plus.

Thanks

Re: 1000HA bluetooth header

I'm trying to find out the same thing... I searched for FCC picture of the board, but no luck... cant find picture of the mobo anywhere! I'm hoping someone take it apart to replace the harddrive with a 7200rpm one can give us some insight into the bluetooth header...

Re: 1000HA bluetooth header

I peaked inside the front of my 1000HA with a flashlight and saw the brown bluetooth connector.

I couldn't take a pic but it's located in the same place the 1000H motherboard has it (Pictured below, courtesy of jkkmobile)

Red = Brown connector for the bluetooth module

Blue = The actual BT253 8-pin bluetooth module (Not included with 1000HA)

Anybody know if the BT253 is class 1 or 2?

Update: Just so everyone knows, it's under the palm rest and keyboard, not under the 2 screw bottom plate. You have to take out 10+ screws to get at it.

It should be class 2.  I guess with the existence of a header I have no reason not to pick up a dell truemobile 360 bt 2.1 w/ cable and an atheros based wireless n card, hooray linux (also hooray for white)

So how easy is it to add it?  Will it require soldering like the 900s?

No soildering needed; just order up a module and plug it in (they are all over the internet, acer uses them in their 5050's and 3680's if you want a place to start looking)

im pretty sure if you on xp (although dont quote me on this) you could most likely use the 3680 bluetooth drivers from acer-panam ftp and it might all be compatable; if they dont install with the setup.exe just call the inf from add hardware etc etc

for those of you who dont use xp (like me) most linux distros (exspecially ubuntu) will recognize and be able to use the bluetooth immediantly. perhaps monday I will scoop one of these modules from work and test it out during lunch and repost here unless of course anyone else wants to chime in and enlighten me; please and thank you big_smile

Re: 1000HA bluetooth header

Whatt about the dell truemobile 360 ?  Can that one just be plugged in?  Or is mod needed?`  The bt253 seems tough to find except at ASUS parts Europe or in expensive upgrade kits.

Also, I'm an amateur when it comes to opening up laptops so forgive if the question is obvious but tryiing to figure the pic above...  is the red circle where one end of the black strap cable is connected to the motherboard and the blue is showing the other end where it connects to the module?

Yeah, they all look nearly the same but yeah that one will work; they just plug right in

Re: 1000HA bluetooth header

Our personal for sale section's been a little laggy lately... but if you need a bluetooth module... you could always post a wanted message there... someone with a 901/1000/1000H who doesn't need it and could use the spare money might take your offer.
Also, someone with a 901 who cracked a screen, screwed up the touchmod, would probably be willing to sell it...

That's how I got one :-)

So, how did it go? Did u buy it? I'm in the exact same situation here! I have an excelent offer on a 1000HA but i kinda need the bluetooth, then I found this thread!
I think its a easy "mod"!

*EDIT*

That's already been done by our friend Vinhtvu2: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=50585

Good news and i might just buy the 1000ha after all

Is this based on speculation or you have actually done it?  I have searched and the only "success" story is not involving a Dell module.  He was going to use a different one but a module from a 901 came available so thats what he used instead.

I installed a Dell Truemobile 360 BlueTooth 2.1  in my 1000HA. I can verify that it works. Pretty easy.

Where did you buy the Dell Truemobile and cable from?  Were any modifications needed or did it just plug right in?

I found the card and cable separately on ebay. I don't recall the vendor. Do a search there.

No modifications... plugged right in. There's a thread on this board somewhere about it.
