Finally painted my 1000h (pics)

I was so sick of cleaning off fingerprints I decided to paint it. and why not make a matching mouse.

My next mod will be to make that Logitech Nano receiver internal. That is why there is no webcam on this, I will be using that port to attach the Nano.

The pictures do not do the color justice. It is a candy metallic flake corvette yellow.

Thanks for the feedback smile

I used Krylon primer and paint. 220 grit sandpaper. Bondo for filling the webcam hole and EeePC logo on the bezel.
For the topcoat I used Dupli-Color Clear Effex. Thats where the candy metallic flakes are from.

As for time I did not really pay attention. There is a total of 8 coats of paint, and it took about 3 days.

I pondered that idea, but I kind of like the contrast it gives to that area.

I agree, leave them as they are. You did a fantastic job by the way. The color is a bit "loud" for me, but that is why it is yours, not mine. How many hours do you think it took total from strip down to re-assembly?

Not including waiting time between coats I would say about 2hrs labor. But I also do laptop warranty work for a living, so I have taken apart a few laptops in my days.

Looks pretty nice.

I like the shiny appearance that is standard on them, but wish it was a tad more smudge proof.

I would like a 1000H made with the same finish as the 701.

it looks really nice. I'm wondering why you are deciding to mount the mouse receiver inside the 1000 even though it's so small.

Even as small as it is, it drives me nuts knowing it is there. Weird of me I know, people ask me this question a lot.
Also I have no intention of using this mouse with any other computer (my desktop has Dinovo keyboard and mouse) so I figured why not make it more permanent.

Re: Finally painted my 1000h (pics)

nice job....couldn't u have just keep the web cam and use a bluetooth mouse, that would of solved the issue, no?
or
guessing u must like the challenges.

+
the web cam mounted above th screen makes it look nice(expensive), at least to me.

only had mines for a few days,so the finger prints aren't driving me crazy, yet, but if/when i get sick of them,  i know who to send it to, to get painted Ferrari red. smile

When I bought my mouse I actually went to the store looking for a bluetooth one. But I did not like the look of any of them, and I also started thinking about how Bluetooth kills battery time on my cell phone, might it be the same on my laptop? So I went a different route. And yeah, I like doing things my own way.

I used to agree with this, before every laptop on the market had one. Now its just a generic feature that I personally never use. My last laptop I had for over a yr, and used the webcam for a grand total of 2 minutes. In the 3-4 weeks I have had my 1000h I have turned it on once just to make sure it worked.

You're great.  A freakin' professional job!  Why not start a side business painting Eees?

I'd like my 901 cherry red.  And my 701 puce (or maybe kumquat.)

How much would you charge?  Turnaround time?

Thanks a million!

I agree.

Thats a very nice job by the way, did you take it apart and paint the plastics seperatly or did you paint it whilst the machine was intact.

Re: Finally painted my 1000h (pics)

Man, that is a sweet paintjob! I was thinking about painting mine when I finally get it (would be a 1000h, hopefully later this week)... The gloss stuff scares me. I was going to use a matte black epoxy paint I painted my handgun with big_smile

I wonder if it's worth the labor just to go from gloss black to matte black though hmm

Well done!

I've been thinking of using Dupli-color/Vinyldye for a few years, just could never find the time or make my mind up on a color. sad
