I just installed the latest "P901 Boot Optimization" update and it dumped my File Management icon and pushed most of my web icons into Favourites.
Watch out if you install this latest patch. I think no small amount of circumspection is needed on installing Asus updates. I'm not even sure it makes any real difference on booting my 901??

I was wondering about this one. What is the deal with Asus's incompetence about upgrading this thing?
And is there ever going to be an update to Firefox?

It happened on my 901 during the automatic download of the update, even before choosing to install the update. Ridiculous to have now my 'Network' icon in Favorites.
I restored the File Manger icon with these instructions by tamlaras:

I wonder what I'm doing differently on my 901? I installed the boot optimization update with great trepidation, but all my icons are exactly where they were before. In fact, TBH, I haven't noticed a difference at all in performance pre- and post-update, and the update itself seemed to go without a hitch.
I have Xandros Linux 20GB, with BIOS 1101, for what it's worth.

I'm on 1301 Linux. Hmmm!

mine have all moved too. and worst thing is you can't move them back in an easy way. Damn Asus

The update suggested by tamlaras worked for me - bios 1301 if that makes any difference. I should like to know how to get the other icons back to where they belong - as I had just got used to that layout!

So do I. The original lay-out was not rational in all respects (in my opinion "Network" belongs in Settings, not in Internet), but now it is worse (with Network in Favorites).
A simple way to organize the icons yourself would be nice. I do not fancy editing simpleui.rc, especially since I am not sure which instructions in the wiki apply to a 901 and which do not.
BTW: Also BIOS 1301 (Would that make a difference?)

I think I found what happened.
Apparently a file /var/lib/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc was installed that overrides the default file /opt/xandros/share/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc
In /var/lib/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc all icons that have moved to Favorites are indeed assigned to Favorites: simplecat="Favorites"
Cannot be difficult to edit the file to make the icons appear in the tab where you want them.

Hm, I created a copy of the simpleui.rc file in /var/lib/AsusLauncher prior to doing the update. I wonder why it wasn't overwritten, and all my icons moved as well?

Are you sure that your /var/lib/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc was not changed?
I edited the file to put the icons (back) where I want them. Really easy. To be more precise: I made two backups of the file to /home/user/, edited one and copied that one (sudo cp) back to /var/lib/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc

I assume it wasn't because my internet tab icons weren't moved to the favourites tab. And a quick file date check seems to confirm this assumption as the time code for the last update of the simpleui.rc file on my system is 26 August. (I only installed the boot optimization and touchpad updates on the 31 August).
Perhaps the fact that I had already created a copy of the simpleui.rc in the default override location (/var/lib/AsusLauncher directory) circumvented the creation of a new simpleui.rc file with the internet icons set to the wrong tab?

Another good thread, I had the same problem but managed to combine
a) Ronald P's advice
b) Tamlara's file manager solution
c) My PC knowledge
to put the icons back where they belong - many thanks for the help and support guys, I would be completely lost without you (I didn't even know sudo nano brought up a simple text editor!)
I love my 901, but poor support from asus is driving me up the pole!

The icons in Easy Mode have moved again. The Favorites tab has moved from the last to the first position and most Internet icons are back in the Internet tab. Is the "Eee Download" icon new? I did not notice it before. Last week I edited var/lib/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc to move "Network" to the Settings tab, because that is where I would look for it, but now it is back in the Internet tab. And I have now two ""File Manager" icons in the Work tab.
Indeed, the file var/lib/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc appears to have a creation date of 09/09/2008. Apparently again an update that was installed silently. I wished Asus would not mess with my 901 without an opportunity to choose and, worse, even without any notification.

Same thing here: I've noticed exactly the same yesterday or the day before :-/

I looked closer at the two instances of the "File Manager" icon in the new file var/lib/AsusLauncher/simpleui.rc. One calls /opt/xandros/bin/eeepc-file-manager-helper.sh, the other calls /opt/yostore/xandrosFM.sh, but both default to the location "My Home" when clicked in the interface.

Just to be sure, I F9'ed my system so I could re-apply the updates one at a time and file out what was causing this problem. No luck. Yesterday there were three updates. Today there are only two and neither of them caused the moving icons or two file manager problem.
I no longer trust asus for updates, and will turn off the download system.
