This is for all first timers and if I can do it then anyone else can do it.
I had no previous experience in soldering so I did my homework and I practiced here http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=36326
OK, Lets start ...
Here are all the pictures I took while doing the installation for you reference.
First you need to follow the Video of JKKmobile as this is the best source available (Great Thanks to JKK our Hero).
http://jkkmobile.blogspot.com/2008/07/h … s-eee.html
I had the video playing infront of me while doing the installation.
First you need to solder the the TS Zif cable to the controller and Fido's cable had different colors than JKK so this is how to do it:
Opening up my 901 20GB and notice the black insolation that Asus start to have covering the RAM and others .. No lot of Eees have these

Notice the insolation tape in this area where we need to install the TS controller which was perfect and ready for you.
Installing only the wires first on the MOB the Red to the 5V, the Black to the Earth and the two Yellows to the USBs. One to be soldered to the right point that is close to the connector and this is the USB+ and the other to the right point just below the first one and this is the USB -
These were very tricky as you can easily make a deadly mistake in here but thanks god I did it.
Installing the wires to the Controller and note the wires positions:
first point front left = Leave it Empty
2nd point for 5V
3rd point for Earth
4th point for usb+
5th point for usb-
Opening up the LCD panel to install the touch screen
This is the connection between the TS Zif cable and the Controler.
And that's it with the touch screen! Just make sure you download the right Touch Screen Driver as I did a mistake and used the wrong one first.
This is the right driver if you you have XP http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/TouchKitD … Driver.htm
Next is the installation of a Samsung 1.8" 80GB Zif HDD and for information of which HDD and which Zif Cable and where we get them from please search the forum as there are plenty of such information.
First I had to cut the zif cable as below as you do not need that much of exposed wires
Do not take the blue tape and dont worry it will fit ! you only need to insert it in an angle first then the rest will get inserted with a little bit of force but be carefull.
I did the installation while I had my Eee still open and this is much easier. But I also managed to change the Zif cable and re-install it directly from the back lid with no problem.
This is how it look like after closing the case
I put two small pieces of double sided tape so that it holds
Here it is configured

That's all ![]()
I will update this later to add few hints and things to avoid.
Enjoy

Good documentation HeartBeat, thumbs up! ![]()
One thing though, i would like to se an explanationof where and how the wires going to the Touchpanel needs to be placed, so we have a full tutorial, but the HD part just looks great.

i don't have the isolation tapes there
but i'll be using the sandwich method.
kapton tape on the motherboard -> double sided tape on the kapton ->kapton top on the controller then stick it onto the double sided tape.

@coninsan Isnt that covered in picture No. 10 ?
@twe90kid I got my 901 20GB directly from Hong Kong, it has Zif, Full English Keyboard (English Only) and got that tape protection which i found very usefull. However kapton will do!

Just to let you know ..
Today I received another Fido Touch Screen as my previous one was cracked!
I installed it today and everythings seams fine and calibration seams to be ok so far ..
I am using JKK Driver and I used just Kapton tape to hold the TS. Nothing between the Touch Screen and the LCD but Kapton tape on top of TS at the 4 sides.
I was carefull this time when I put on the screws and I left them loose a bit but I had one problem as the bezel did not Clicked close on the right side and I had to use a tiny small drop of glue!
So thats it.
Thank you coninsan for your help!
