Great tut.... pics say 1000 words hey.
Well done.
Now I just got to have the guts to do the mod and find the screen.

You can also watch JKK's video if you want something a bit more interactive.

Nice photo guide, i think it will be very useful to all of us.
Just one thing: i prefer soldering the 5V cable on the front face of the mother board close to the webcam connector, cause that point doesn't consume power on stand by(the usb 5v power does )

Its just great to see that some people are devoted to sharing their experiences with others, i am probably going to use ome of these pictures for reference while doing my own touchscreen mod.
One thing that could have been done otherwhise: the text could have been placed in white boxes so that it would be easier to read, but other than that this realy sums up the whole thing. ![]()

very nice

Very clear step by step instructions. Also good to see that its a EeePC 900 unlike Jkk's guide with the 901. Its good to know that the touchpanel fits.
Thank you for your time.

So, does that mean if we use the above photos, we'll use the 5V point that always has power running, even when the system is off. This would really kill the battery, wouldn't it?
It would really nice if someone can post photos of places one can derive 5V other than from the USB above.

I'm going to use this power source(Jkk's advice)

I thought the USB's were only powered on standby, not when the unit was off. can someone correct me if i have the wrong end of the stick
If they are powered when the unit is off, is it only when the mains is in or is it mains and battery?

i think they are on only on stand by and not when the pc is off. once (with and older bios) i had noticed my mini usb bluetoth led was flashing after i turned my eee900 off(it was on battery), but not with the new bios

Oh great.. then I have to update my bios.. It still gives power to my mouse when off so I have to unplug it..
If thats the case then there is no harm in taking power from the USB..

before you update your bios, i'll check mine with a BT dongle tonight. i've 0804 bios on my machine. i'll see if the ports are powered .

yip....mu bt dongle led does not flash when it is off, on battery, therefore i think the usb's must not be powered when the pc is off

true but if you follow this guide it will consume power in standby.
Would it be ok to follow this guide and just use jkk's alternative power source?

For those of you that know of the problem with these panels cracking when tightening the screen screws, i have a sugestion that might help.
One thing you could do to prevent a crack, could be to shave the edges of the screen bezel which is pushing against the screen.
Like this:
This is obviously dramatasized, but you get the idea.
Another thing is to remove the metal frame around the LCD, to give a little more clearence.
I have no idea if it would work, but since the panel is fragille, one might have to take extra precausions when fitting it.

If I use the 5v from the Right USB does that stop it from working externally? Is there any limitation from using this aside from the power drain in stby?
My screen is on order, will update my experience with it in due course.
Anybody done a mod to incorporate a stylus in the casing or anything like that??

thats a cool idea, but i think you would need to cut or mod the case in order to do that

Hi everyone, I just bought a 900 and i want to do the touchscreen mod, but i have never done something that involves soldering or taking apart a laptop. What does it mean to insulate the controller to prevent shortage? Is that like putting some sort of antistatic on it? And do you just tape it down to the wifi module to keep it in place? I haven't bought a touchscreen so i'm just doing some prereading, and does the 900 have the problem of possibly breaking the screen from the bezels or something like that?

get the solderless kit so you'll only have to have guts to crack open the case.
insulating is to prevent shortage while it's on. by using anti-static like tape
