I have a Eee PC 1000H/xp and wish to make the hyper threading function enabling.
From the cpu-z info on my machine, the "thread" column show "1".
I try to go for bios & nothing there.
no "hyper threading" & "speed step" on 'cpu config' where it is found on eeepc 901 bios.
My bios is
--------------
ASUS 1000H ACPI BIOS 0802
7/9/2008
EC Fireware EPCB-013
What should I do to get hyper threading?
Should the latest BIOS 0901 come with this option?
Thank you.

Do you have 2 cpu charts under Performance in the task manager?

I downloaded the 0901 bios for 1000H. I will reflash my bios tonight and see if 0901 has speed step option.
It seems that eeepc 901 has 1001 bios now and speed step option is present in the bios setup. I hope somebody 1000H/901 users could tell us if this bios 0901 version.

Maybe this is the only way we can choose, else downgrade to bios 0601.
BTW, why ASUS install the bios 0802 on 1000H that not available for download from asus website?
Thank you

My current 1000H bios is 0601. This is the first bios (0601) for 1000H. 0802 probably a fix for 0601 or 070x (if there is any bios in this name) and 0901 is the latest for fix bugs in 1000H.

SpeedStep is for CPU throttling (frequency) to conserve power,I wouldnt think it has anything to do with Hyper Threading

OK. So these 2 different things. The questions are: Can you set them up in the new BIOS 0901 for 1000H now? It think SpeedStep is the relevant one. Hyperthreading probably applies to multiple cpu e.g. due core. We know that atom at this moment only got one core. So this is irrevalant, I suppose(??)

Hyperthreading is enabled. You can tell by going into your task manager, where you'll see two charts for cpu usage.
As for Speedstep, there's no option for it in the new 0901 BIOS. However, it doesn't seem necessary at all if you have the "Super Hybrid Engine" installed already, as it will automatically clock down your processor in battery mode (unless you choose to set it to High Performance manually).
I thought speedstep was for more power hungry processors in the Centrino family. Kinda like thier version of the hybrid engine. But I'm not really knowledgable enough about it to give you a clear answer.

So we all are on the way to discover the new thing on EEEPC 1000
Can some tell me whether my machine have hyper threading on or not?
-----------------------------------------------
I just got a picture from taiwan website, if not mistaken, it is a bios caption on 901
See, hyper threading & speed step option is available.
(For my one (bios 0802), there is nothing below MAX CPUID LIMIT)

Ok, windows normally takes care of hyperthreading by default. It is not an option in the Bios (well not my bios anyway....)
It should show in the task manager performance tab. Now I see from your images that task manager is showing only one cpu. However this could mean that you have task manager set to show all cpus as one graph. To check that you need to click view -> Cpu History and select 'One graph per cpu' from within Task Manager.
If, after this it still only shows one cpu then Windows has installed incorrectly and you have the single cpu version of windows installed. In many ways the easiest way to fix this is to re-install windows. I seem to remember some years ago there was a hack floating around that let you switch to the multicore Windows kernel without a complete reinstall, but it's probably not for beginners. You'd have to google it, I don't know where to find it.
If you do need to do either of these then please back up all your important things first.

After every effort & get nothing, I decided to UPGRADE the bios 0802 to 0901.
It is so easy with the ASUS Update Software.
After UPGRADE, the option I expected still not available in bios (all keep same).
BUT Cpu-z test now show the threads value of "2".
From the task manager "one graph per cpu" is light-ed (available). Two CPU usage chart also shown.
The conclusion, the bios 0901 make the hyper threading function on.
A reverse question. How do I turn off the hyper threading ?
Thank you.

haha first you want hyperthreading, and now you want it off?!

Hyperthreading was on to begin with in the 0601 bios. You don't really want to turn it off. Your performance will be better overall if you just leave it. Windows is very good at thread managment. Hyperthreading has nothing to do do with Atom being a dual core... Atom has one core but it uses two threads. Its been engineered to utilize hyperthreading very well... theres no reason you would want to turn it off. You can't turn it off in Windows. Only in the bios should you be able to turn it off. It doesn't surprise me that you wouldn't see it in there anyway because you shouldn't really turn it off to begin with.

I reflash my bios now with the new 0901 in my 1000H. There is now, a "CPU Configuration setup" which is "DISABLED for WindowsXP". So there is still NO go for the things we want to do for our eeepc 1000H. One thing running various OSes on it i.e. XP, Linux and Mac OS X.
The funny thing is Asus eeepc's has the same brand of BIOS with MSI Wind - AMI BIOS. However, MSI Wind has better bios setup. You can enable "AHCI" mode in your SATA ( - AHCI mode can install XP without SATA driver) and on/off speedstep according to msi wind users who installed OS X. (No go yet with OS X in 1000H (I been trying for days now) -irrevant info here but just in case someone like to know????!)

Damn. That means my stock eeePC does not have the hyper threading Windows installed because it only shows 1 CPU graph? Can you post an image of what its supposed to look like?(i.e with 2 CPU graphs). Coz my "One graph per CPU" thing is greyed out but its selected. Dunno if I should do a reinstall of Windoze.

There is a LOT of misinformation going on in this thread.... Hyperthreding is enabled through the bios... not windows. Windows does make use of it and if its a good install, everything should work just fine. In the task manager you should see one bar for overall cpu load and two other graphs for the load of the two threads. This is how the 1000H comes by default. If for some reason yours is not like this try re-ghosting your partitions and see if that fixes it. Something could have been corrupted preventing windows from recognizing the two threads. (keep in mind this is highly unlikely.)
Hyperthreading is turned ON by default. There isn't a selection in the BIOS because you really don't have any reason to turn it off. Mine is working just fine right out of the box... I'm sure yours is too.

Those EEEPC 1000H with BIOS 0802 have no hyper threading enabling. Upgrade to BIOS 0901 will make this function ON.
Since no option on bios. You need no do anything with bios. Version of bios will do it.
Thank you

after reading this I thought of flashing the Wind bios on 1000/1000H
has anyone tried it?
this kinda stuff would probably need some serious guts to do it
your expensive eee could become a meaningless brick

I learn a lot from this question. May be I can help you.
From first view, the image show no info of hyper threading。
Refer to "Marsh Wibble" post
- View > cpu history
If you see only one option & is Grey, then it means your system have no hyper threading yet。
or you can try use Cpu-z 1.46 (download from http://www.cpuid.com), on the column of "threads“, 2 means hyper threading , and 1 is no hyper threading.
Go for bios setup, (press f2 after power on), check for bios version.
bios 0802 come no hyper threading。
If you want this function on, you may try to upgrade to bios 0901.
Upgrade is easy BUT MUST BE VERY CAUTION
------------How------------
First, make sure you have plenty of battery. (I use double source, battery+AC)
Get bios 0901 from eeepc website.
Use the ASUS update in you program list. choose the new bios 0901 file. OK
----system restart -----
Please don't do anything until the process done.
It may take few minute.
---------------------------
After PC restart , some of the previous setting may return to their default value
eg. MAX LCD brightness, WiFi/bluetooth on.
Set the value again as what you did last time. (for first restart, some keyboard key may not respond very well, it is ok, all will go back to normal after you restart again)
Now check again on you cpu chart, you should see 2 chart now.
Thank you。

i just recieved my 1000h, n i check the bios is 901. however i still dont have the 2 thread that i am suppose to have. z cpu and window register it to have 1 core and 1 thread only. can anybody help me? furthermore i dont see any options for hyperthread in the bios. weird.. by stock the bios that comes with it is 901 already..

There are two versions of the BIOS with the number 0901 - the stock one, and the one which you download from the Asus Update website. You'll need to download this and flash your BIOS with it to enable hyperthreading - but be wary, as doing so has enabled HT for me, but given me a boot time of approximately six-and-a-half minutes! ![]()

finally a answer that i see is quite related to mine.. however, i cant flash it with the another 901 d/l from the webby, they always say the image file cannot be read, press power to shut down.. how come will like this. how to overcome it man.. u manage to flash 901 over 901?
