Hi ... ive got all the xandros repositories as per the wiki in the sources.list on my eee
previously i had a debian repository on my machine, and installed open arena and globulation 2 on my machine with no problems but then attempted to install a couple more games and they vanished mysteriously , didn't install, but certainly never appeared in my start menu under advance desktop, so id prefer to use official xandros repositorys
I don't know how one searches a repository, so if anyones got a tip such as a list facility in linux that would be useful
ive seen a lot of space scroller games for linux online, but im interested in command and conquer type games or quality FPS games, someone on a previous post said command and conquer was now free, is that the case? and is it on the xandros reps on the wiki and if so , whats the apt-get install name? i.e. apt-get install commandandconquer, command and conquer or command or what ?
I must admit i dont know much about how one gets games for linux or what is free to play etc, but really im after games such as open arena, not your general puzzle type games or vertical scrolling space invader type games which do seem common on linux
does anyone have a list of such games that definitly install on the eee and what repositories they are found on?
thanks

If you're willing to compile source codes, then see this list. But be warned:
compiling is not for the faints of heart (not for newbies to linux).

yeah i notice some of them are right up my street such as soldier of fortune which was released on the pc ages ago but $46 for a 4ish yr old pc game (not sure on exact chronology).... mmmm not my cup of tea ....
Compiling may not be my cup of tea (im terrible at following written written instructions), but i'll have a look when im sober tommorow .. thanks for making the effort with the links.. the community seems otherwise silent on the questions of already compiled games

There's also a huge list of games listed at http://www.linuxlinks.com/Software/Games/

Redhawk,
Can you tell me exactly which version of globulation you downloaded? The web site says there are various .deb versions, but all I can find is the .gz. Being a complete Linux noob, I have no idea what to do with it from there.
Also, did you have to download other packages to make it work? I don't have internet access on my EEE, so I'm trying to find games that I can install without direct access.
Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the info. I'm having fun trying to figure Xandros out, but it's a bit of a pain when I can't connect directly to the internet on it. I'll try looking at the getdeb web site you listed to see if I can figure it out. Otherwise, I'll just have to wait until I get back to the states.
Thanks again.

mmm yeah there are a lot of games at http://www.linuxlinks.com/Software/Games/, not many of them are in the xandros repositories though sadly ... one game that was , was called ACS i believe which was a strategy game installed, but did not go into the start menu in the advance desktop ... i did find some references to it, in the ssd directory, but i didn't find an executable file for it or something that would let me run it, it was the same story with about 3 other games i managed to install
How do i tell if its a valid game and should they all be installing into the start menu in advanced desktop, it seems like population of this menu with a link to play the game should be a given .....

Would anyone know if it's possible to install only one kde game ( i.e. kshisen, or shisen-sho) from Xandros or Debian and how to check for dependancies?
I tried the source www.geekconnection.org but the apt-get process warned me that I would need to install a lib... file which got me thinking about dependancies. Looking at http://packages.debian.org/stable/games/kshisen I realised that there might be more than one such dependancies. As many of you know, you start with one which forks to others, so on and so forth....
I don't want to break anything in the EEE software. I've finally managed to get french canadian keyboard working ( from another post in this forum) and now would simply need this one game installed.
What's the best way to go about it without too much changes to what's installed already?
Thanks

I've also been trying to get glest working. There is a deb package but it didnt work when i tried it out.. havent got the link off hand.
Edit: sorry not a deb package, here is the link http://liflg.org/?catid=7&gameid=58
Its an installer but i believe its not going to work out due to a lot of missing dependencies.

I just install freeciv .. but you need an external monitor as a fair bit of the game goes off the bottom of the screen, even if you maximise
nexuiz and tremulous install, though nexuiz is a bit laggy
still looking for Glest and Sauerbraten

Do a google search for "retrospec" and follow the links on the left of the page to linux games. Head Over Heels is superb.

Freecraft is fun (but short). Also, there is BOS (Battle of survival, i think), but the one in the repositories is the old 2.1 version. There is a new 2.4 version available on the website, but that involves updating core libraries, and I am afraid of messing up my system.

I cant get uqm to work. "Segmentation falult" is what I get at the command line. The installation was successful for the Xandros repos.
I emailed "Elecroman" but got no answer.
Has anyone else tried this game? Can anyone help me?
Thnaks!
--- Edit ---
Got it working. I just had to reboot the EEE PC. I've been reading about some SW (Ur-Quan Masters and KeePassX) that after installing gives some "Segmentation Fault" errors. Apparently you just need to reboot.
