If you have problems with seeing shared folders on a network then it is most likely an issue with a particular service being turned off. I had this problem and solved it by going to START>Run>services.msc and then made sure that services involving networking were not disabled and set to automatic.

Regarding Wireless Zero problem mentioned by Freestyler106..
I've loaded XP SP3 (w/nLite) on a few machines and this problem has occurred more than once - everything seems to be working but the system just doesn't see any wireless networks..
It seems there are "issues" with the WZC .DLLs provided with SP3 and the only way I could get it working was to reinstall these files from a working copy of XP SP2.
The files you need to copy are WZCDLG.DLL, WZCSAPI.DLL and WZCSVC.DLL, located in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\. You need to first stop the Wireless Zero service (Start -> Run -> Services.msc - may have to temporarily disable the service and restart the computer before Windows will allow you to overwrite the files).. After downgrading the 3 DLL files, restart the WZC service.
Now here's a weird thing.. I discovered after much messing around that disabling the "Event Log" service creates the same symptoms; I can't imagine why..

THE solution to my problem, thanks!

Can you confirm for me if you can use Dial Up Networking for this? I use DUN to connect to my Verizon phone for internet.
Thanks in advance.

The Wireless Zero Configuration has nothing to do with dial up

Mahalo nui loa termere613! I was banging my head over this one. I just wish I'd found this post before I reloaded full XP over an nLited version. Oh well, I'm just glad that the wireless is working now. I'll give nLite another try when I have more time.
I agree that this should be a sticky based on the number of posts that I've seen about this issue.

Sounds like a problem with a particular Nlite Session File you guys used?
Ive not yet seen any problems with the wireless on SP3 with any of my Nlite setups.
Also, there is a new version 1.4.7 Nlite which fixes some other errors with SP3 setups.

Hi! everybody.... i want to share some idea. it may help you...
Remove the Shared Documents folders from My Computer (XP)
One of the most annoying things about the new Windows XP user interface is that Microsoft saw fit to provide links to all of the Shared Documents folders on your system, right at the top of the My Computer window. I can't imagine why this would be the default, even in a shared PC environment at home, but what's even more annoying is that you cannot change this behavior through the shell: Those icons are stuck there and you have to live with it.
Until now, that is.
Simply fire up the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ My Computer \ NameSpace \ DelegateFolders
You'll see a sub-key named {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}. If you delete this, all of the Shared Documents folders (which are normally under the group called "Other Files Stored on This Computer") will be gone.
You do not need to reboot your system to see the change.

or you can do this:
http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/1220/
or disable all sharing: (save as .reg file):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
; DISABLE SHARING
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Network]
"NoFileSharing"=dword:00000001
"NoPrintSharing"=dword:00000001

Just registered to say THANK YOU!
I spent > 10hrs on this issue. It was compounded by the fact that a full install with SP3 worked where as if I used nlite it would break.
Wireless would work and would also try and connect to the 1st network... just wireless config wasn't showing any networks.
I tried tracing the issue with regmon & procexp... anyway thank you.
BUT!
I was unable to manually add a network... the Association tab was missing.
The fix:
Download KB893357
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta … laylang=en
and use the files from this update.

Thank God!
Well done for sorting this out! I was about to bin the nLited XP and face using fat old regular XP (SP3), when I FINALLY found this thread.
Works perfectly and I suppose is obvious.
If you're a genius!
This forum is simply outrageous... top marks and a big thank you!
Now, anyone have any idea how to get the 901 buttons working (have already installed the utility from the 901 XP driver disk)?

Hi, I just got a 16G 900 danish XP, and it seems to be as slow as jkkmobiles tests promised, so I expect that I will return it for at refund within the 14 days (they didn't have a display model, or rather it didn't have a battery, an OS, or even a power adaptor :-).
But the real problem is that I can't seem to connect to my wireless network. I'm using a D-Link DGL-4300, WPA-PSK, TKIP.
I've tried entering the pass phrase several times, but it still won't connect. Any one got any ideas?
EDIT: Forgot to mention, that I thought it was this issue, since Asus preinstalled it with XP SP3, but installing the three files from a danish XP Home SP2 didn't help any.
EDIT2: Nevermind I got it :-)

is this caused by sloppy nLite user settings (people unchecking things they shouldn't) ?
i did an nLlite of xp and it installed just fine without a problem.
what is it people are doing to cause this problem?
that'd help people avoid doing it again.
