Couldn't wait any longer - getting an hour and half off my 4400mah battery which just about lasts out one way for the train journey I make most days... It's fine if I can get a seat with a power socket, but if I can't I don't want to have to charge the eeePC every day in between journeys, and then again every night.
Decided to go for both a 10400 and a 6600mah - that way I can use the 6600 most days, but for longer trips I can take teh 10400.
I want to get an official 5800mah when able - at least it will fit flush then. Until then, at least I can get the power I need. Will let people know how I get on with the 3rd party batteries I've just ordered once they arrive.

How much was the 10400 and where did you get it from?
thanks

Yeah I got fed up with the Asus 4400 battery & just ordered a 10400mah from ebay seller: lee262onlineuk I hope my 900 doesnt get blown up!

easy to justify the purchase if you have the 4400 battery... would be nice to see your own experiences about those two "monsters"... ![]()

Hey guys
i just received my 10400mah battery yesterday from ebay (seller ugooole, exemplary service and great communication!)
i havent had much of a chance to put it through its paces but i managed a bit of a test yesterday.
it lasted 7hours and 10mins,
thats with WiFi ON, sound OFF, screen brightness at 15% mostly (changed to 20% in last 2 odd hours) and using it for browsing internet and word processing. the processor was underclocked to 333Mhz for roughly 5hrs and the last 2hrs odd at 630.
so i guess you can consider that pretty close to the absolute maximum you'll get with this battery.
i'm gonna try and put it through its paces a bit more today and post my results here ![]()

Just received my 10400mah batt and charging it up now to test it.
Two things to keep in mind, the size of it raises the back considerably, which for me at least is a quite pleasant typing angle (also perhaps better for airflow?) and with the oversized batt it won't fit comfortably into the supplied case but you can get it in and close it, just. Will post any other findings here.

Scutch - I'm not a fan of the battery being too oversized, which is why I also went for the 6600... However, I'd rather have longevity when I need it, and travelling 3 - 4 hours by train per day makes the 10400 a good choice.
Would you be able to post a picture of the 10400 in your eeePC so we can see just how much it protrudes? Cheers.

I just watched Unforgiven (2 hours) on a single charge with my 4400mah battery! I think I'll get a 5800mah too and carry the 4400 around with me if I'm on a long trip or something.

It isn't quite as bad as I feared... It does look quite a good typing angle.
Thanks very much!

woah, big! however, i can see how that would make a nice typing angle, it looks about right for me as a touch typist.

I just got 10400mah from the seller: lee262onlineuk. I havent tested it as of yet, but I will test it everything on full and see how long it lasts. I was affraid of it looking odd or may off colour a bit, but it looks fine. I was very surprised at how fast I got it. It came within 48 hours of ordering from Hong Kong which was really fast! The size isn't that bad I thought it was make the EEE really heavy, but it's actually quite comfortable on my knee right now.

Hi Guys
This is an official response as to why asus are shipping 4400 batteries to UK customers
Dear Customer,
At the moment, units are sold with the lower capacity batteries. You can follow the steps below to make the battery last longer.
How can I extend my battery life as much as possible?
Any or all of the following steps can be taken:
Disable wireless if you are working with your Eee but don't need to go online – press Fn + F2 (this is arguably the most significant power-saving move you can make)
Lower the screen brightness and increase ambient lighting in the area
Lower or mute the speaker volume
Unplug bus-powered USB devices when they are not in use
Disable the camera device in the BIOS
Minimize processor-intensive activity
Run the Eee at stock speeds if you have enabled the 900MHz option
Set the screen saver to start up in less than the 5 minutes default setting in Easy Mode, and ensure that power to the LCD is also shut off. See the wiki page on this topic.
Kind regards,
Asus TSD
Why are you letting them do this to uk customers.
If enough of us take a stand then we might get free replacement batteries for free as they have done in Hong Kong
They are admitting that they are doing this let us all take a stand and log a support call about the issue then they might change their mind

I'm a bit annoyed about the 4400 battery thing.. but willing to let it slide because the Eee still lasts much longer than my other laptops (all <1hour!)
If I got a free replacement, it'd definitely be a bonus though. That 10,400 thing is *huge*!! Argghh..

best to let them know though.. since if not - they will think everyone is happy with the low spec battery...
best to lodge a concern with the vip.asus.com site - contact techincal support on there or write to thier head office,

if you don't tell them your not happy - they won't know ![]()
thread here http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=27140&p=1 with many upset UK owners.. even more so now the USA are getting 5800 batterys as "standard" - according to new owners..
upto you at the end of the day, but I for one am not happy to put up with it, and esp now other countries inc HK / USA get 5800's
but it's a bit like when people boycott things.. and don't bother telling the company why...

This is pathetic for what is supposed to be a mobile machine! The points about screen saver/brightness/speakers/USB are fair enough, but the disabling wireless seems to defeat much of the point of the Eee. Similarly the points about processor activity and speed negate the point of having better specs if the battery supplied just can't handle them.
Difficult to know whether Asus TSD are trying to be helpful or just making a mockery of those with the 4400 battery.

guys lets keep posts topical =p Theres a huge post to voice your thoughts over the Uk battery issue!

Thanks for the pix Scutch. I'd heard they were oversized but hadn't seen a good picture.
I ordered four of them and an extra charger last week. I'll probably leave the 4400 mAh in as an everyday battery and keep the 10400s charged up in my bag for use when I need extended battery time.
Even with all those batteries, headphones, chargers, dongles, flash devices, mouse and my eee, the whole bag weighs less than my big laptop.

I've been using the oversized battery for a few days now and i'm not finding it to be much of a hinderance. I'm doing a stress test on it now, running XP, screen full brightness, wifi on using sling player to connect to my home SKY box (VH1 classic to be specific, top 10 blondie videos) and streaming the video full screen on my eee. Started running at 9.30 am this morning, will keep you posted on how the battery hold up.

Right, it's been tearing away for 2.5 hrs and it's down to 30 %

That seems good for wifi plus video so far.

3 hrs and still going, 20% left
