Whilst doing my Eee PC 900 review tests, I upgraded the RAM to to GB. It is, of course, recognised by the BIOS, but it is also recognised by the stock Xandros kernel as well.
This means you don't have to recompile the kernel if you are upgrading the memory on the 900, you can just slot the 2 gig module in and go.

Cool, that's good to know ![]()

so eeepc 900 has 1gb ram or 2x512MB ?

Which kind of RAM should you put in it? Is it standard DDR2 (667 say) or SO-DIMM? I'd like to pick up a 2GB stick before leaving Hong Kong.

I'm thinking of upgrading too but have no idea wchih kind of RAM I should put in there. Currently, I have the original 1GB RAM.

Would that be correct? Kingston ValueRAM 2GB SODIMM, 200Pin, DDR2-667

Yep any 200mHz DDR II will do. You don't need 667, ut it doesn't cost much so why not. It's the same as what you find in a 701. Only 1 slot, so you need a 2 gig card.
One more point - there are reports of incompatibility with certain brands. Check the forums before buying.

if you have some spare $10 of money, you could buy Sodimm DDR2 800Mhz memory (PC6400). it will certainly perform better when overclocking!
If the 900 series are somewhat the same as the 700 series, I tested my Eee with following brands:
-Corsair
-Kingston
-Samsung
-Winchip
-stock memory
-Unknown brand (don't have the name here with me) found as stock mem. in Sony Vaio laptops.
All of them worked perfectly.
I suspect the 900 series are a basical upgrade of the 700 model, so they're supposed to be more compatible, and faster!

Hey is there any way to apply this idea to windows xp?

What idea?
XP does not have the limitation that the original Xandros kernel had.
