Nice post. The Garnet OS VM says in the release notes that there's no launcher included with the "release" emulater (as opposed to debuggin). I may try to get this in a workable state, so that I can use some of my PalmOS apps.

Access released the VM for Nokia internet tablets (running a debian-based linux), so maybe if we pester them, they'll release it for us, too. http://www.access-company.com/about/con … ml#general

Well its been getting called a "wee PC" by some but then I am based in Scotland so its no surprise :-)

It would be good if Access made the GVM available for more than Nokia.

Quick one is......download,
double click and unpack it, drag contents somewhere ,
I had a folder called palm in my home area.

then in your palm or whatever you called it folder is a bin folder and within it
linux_dbg and linux_rel folders

In the  linux_dbg folder create a folder called autoload.
In autoload put any palm program you want on the virtual pda.
Then start  the PalmVM it is called gvm and is in the linux_dbg folder

The version in linux_rel does not have an application launcher.

IIRC, you need to be registered for the Access Developer Network to be able to download it. I have developed software for PalmOS in the past (which is why I am interested in running this), and so I was able to log in and download. Once I have some time to mess around with it (I've been trying to get Advanced Mode to work flawlessly, I think I'm there, check out the wiki), I may repost it somewhere with instructions, although I think that would violate the terms of the ADN membership.

I didn't add any .prc files to the autoload folder, but when I start gvm it just seg faults. Did you have that problem?

And when you did get it working, how do you do data entry without a touch screen?

Nope didnt get seg faults. And you just use the mouse. :-)
We should be getting a couple more eeePCs in soon, when they arrive I'll do an install on them and see what happens.

Heck, I'm still trying to get KPilot to consistently acknowledge - and then sync - my TX. The idea of sticking on a 'virtual PDA' seems fraught with disappointment and counter intuitive to the device.

Is there a way to use the palm apps expanded to fill a large portion of the Eee screen?

With PdaReach I can run apps installed on my Treo phone, on the desktop, enlarged X2, but it would be nice to use apps that are not installed on the phone and to enlarge them to fit the full vertical height of the screen.

I downloaded the tgz file. I extracted - and am running into  abit of problem

OK I extracted the files to ./gvm, and edited the gvm.conf file
Running ./gvm runs Garnet VM but I only get a "Shell"
How do I see the full OS?

2- is there a simple method to sync a palm T/X with the same eee above?
