The following is a documentation of the mods I've completed to my eeePC, at the bottom is a list of the installed software
Tune in very soon for more details and images.... think of this as a taste of things to come.
[edit]I don't want to rip this thing apart again until the rest of my 'gizmos' have arrived, so you'll all just have to be patient for the internal shots.[/edit]

Gotta see the inside - it must be chaos! Sounds like an excellent moding experience.

Very nice! I'm looking forward to seeing the internal pictures!
Which other "gizmos" you are planning for your eee?
Offline
@JesseLang,
That looks like a really nice EEE. I can't wait to see inside, and get your writeup. I've been careful NOT to add up the total of all I've spent on my EEE, for fear my wife might see it and freak out.
You said that your OCZ Rally2 drive died. If you still have it could you take some exact measurements of it for me? I am considering putting one on my internal connector in my expansion bay but I am not sure it would fit, with the case on. I need to know the length w/o the cap on, the width, and most importantly the exact depth of the stick. In mm if possible.
Thanks in advance,
JDtucson

****' awesome! you did a wonderful job!!! sure gives me ideas ![]()

@JDTucson - i threw it out after spending a couple hours unsuccessfully (and foolishly) trying to remove the 4x8gb flash disks from the dead PCB. I hunted through my trash (giving my hand a nice bathe in old sushi juice) only to realize that my roommate changed bags. My corsair drive is due to arrive on Friday (pending customs) so I can measure that if it appears similar.
One note I can offer is that it is surprisingly long...and unnecessarily so. It has an extra 1cm length to the PCB that is almost entirely dedicated to an LED. If the populous didn't love LED's so much (and we do love them don't we) it could have been designed smaller. Apart from this, and the fact that they die for no apparent reason, it's a great device.
@Juaquin - I used IDE style ribbon cable for everything so it's not over chaotic; there will even be room left over for an internal USB port to live beside the GPS in the 'bottom compartment'.
@jetfin - can't be giving away all my secrets.

Wow. That's a very thorough mod, innit?
I too can't wait to get to the guts of it.
JDTucson: Will you get a Rally2 or a Rally2 Turbo? If the latter, please let me know where it was you found it. I've been heretofore unsuccessful...

@no1knows
they started off as something like this, but i just wanted them for the resisters and little PCBs.
@everyone
thanks for the positive response; this project is truly a labor of love and I am proud to contribute to this community.

OMG!!!! awesome, nice front led bar, I wanted to do something similiar with my eee. Congrats.
Btw I guess you have a little battery life with all turned on.

I didn't think it was possible to get that much packed into the case.
I salute you !
Awesome job !

I have found them on eBay (US) and at Suntek (UK). ![]()

jetfin, it looks like the LEDs would be more "in your face" or illuminating the battery than the keyboard.
Have you find that to be the case?
Offline
I upped the resistance of the keyboard lights and carefully 'angled' the LED's when soldering; so I'd have to say that I don't find them very intrusive at all. While still offering enough glow to make the aweful black keys more visible at night. If I wasn't so OCD I'd swap the LED's to UV and they keyboard to white...but that wouldn't match (I'd recommend it for any white eee owners though)

very nice job on this project. I like how you kept everything neat and orderly in the placement of lights and switches. Gives it a professional feel

I did try that and it really does work pretty well on a white keyboard. ![]()
