It's not official news. Just what the jkkmobile guy wrote.
Fingers crossed nonetheless.

if the 8g has been delayed so much and delayed regional releases to go along with that. do you really expect not to see delays with the 900 models? it seems that they are having another price increase from the 8g and imho the 8g was already overpriced but when your looking at the same internals and all you have is a better webcam/larger screen/larger ssd do you really think it is worth that much of a price increase? i left out ram because it is so easy to upgrade ram right now for 30$

Well I am intrested in one the 900 that is !

I think the main attractiveness of the Eee PC is the price, it's almost like if it is dropped/damaged/stolen etc. you just wouldn't care/worry, just get another one (just £219 !).
Now for double/triple that money I have a lot more options for UMPC/Laptops and more (don't need it anyway - I already have a laptop/desktop/smartphone/....).
But unfortunately like everything else in this world, as soon as something is cheap and popular the buseness can't resist, add a few things and push up the price/profit !?
I bet in 6 month time we wouldn't be able to purchase a £219 Eee PC at all (will be discountinued !!!? That remind me to put a few more orders.....).

This is virtually the same size bigger screen and it now looks like a real umpc not a budget one. it is only a 1/3 more expensive, 300 quid is not that much considering the 8gb is that much already.
We will see when the things are reviewed and released to the public scrutiny, if you are happy to have your 701 great but if you want a bit more benefits you pay 1/3 more i would pay 300 quid for a 900.

It will only cost 1/4 more ![]()

the linux version of it will prob cost £290-£310 i reckon with the windows version costing £340-£360 im predicting
you get
: bigger screen
:better resolution
:1.3MP camera
: 1GB ram
:8-12GB SSD
you would think they would put a faster processor in aswell .................

That's exactly my problem, they will NOT be supplying the 701 once they release a more expensive one when people falling over themselves to get them - it's a matter of percentage profit and earnings.... !
Also I think you are dreaming of 1/3 or 1/4 price rise for all that, the simple 701 is already being happily puchase for £270+ by many !? (from RRP £219)
Offline
the price for the europe release is looking at 299 euros for the low end version with linux...
read some of the CeBit based release posts guy
from what i can tell the 12G version is looking to be about 400 euros

Is this fact ot speculation? Asus is making a killing off the 701 models and I don't see why they would stop supplying them before th forst wave of demand is met. Personally, I have no interest in a 900 because I can get a regular laptop for the same price. I can't imagine the 900 perfomring as well because it will have a lot more competition in the price bracket. They haven't even released the accessories for the 701 model line yet. I don't think we need to worry about them stopping supply just yet.
Offline
Pure speculation, I also hope we can get 701 for years to come at £219, but I very much doubt it. Demand is too high and hardware manufacturers will take advantage of this. Why sell at this price when you can sell at much higher price, confuse buyers just add a few bytes/pixels/Mhz here and there....... and discountinue cheaper, simpler versions.
Why can't I get a 11" Sony at lower price, I don't really need 2GB RAM and 160GB hard drive and Core 2 Due etc...... ?! Because the hardware & software businesses have created this atmosphere that "you must buy the fastest, most expensive hardware there is !!!", why ?

Well just to get this thread back on track.
I'll pre-order as soon as I can (I'm in the UK) in fact I've already emailed a couple of retailers to express just that.
Thanks

This is the first UK pre-order I have come across... far too expensive for me. I hope they bring the price down!

Yeah it seems they are just putting a ridiculous price until Asus confirms the RRP to them.
If reports are correct, the XP version with 8Gb will be more expensive than the 12Gb with Xandros.
This looks like the probable price:
£300-£320 for Xandros and 12Gb SSD
£399+ for XP and 8Gb SSD

I'd easily pay up to £350 for Xandros with 12gb SSD. If I really didn't like Xandros and wanted XP, I could load it up myself, and not have to pay MS for it!
I'm hoping some sensible company will allow us to preorder the Xandros with 12gb at the RRP...

Nope, Zoom in and you would see the new location for the microphone, just a bit alongside the web cam. It is as legitimate as the pics provided from the Hanover CeBIT show.
