AsTray Plus --- Updates & FAQ

NRC public beta 2 was released:
*Netbook Resolution Customizer Beta2:
A totally new astray plus like utility for all netbooks with intel graphic device.
You can google a useable Linux Modeline for your monitor and get a windows resolution with the modeline.
UIs and functions was tested working fine, but I dont have a real netbook to test it.
So, if you find any problem please contact me!
I recommend epc701 users to use astray+ 1.3.7 for that is the most stable one.
*Download via eeefiles.com. Thanks Mhboob!
*What's new in 1.4.0 BETA1:
1,Fix: Appwatching list reload problem.
2,Fix: AppWatching long path problem.
3,Add: New param "ForceRes" in ini file to force to change the resolution of apps in AppWatching list. (1=Force, 0=Smart)
4,Add: Resolution modelines were exported into the ini file. This makes Astray Plus more open and easy to use. You can calculate the modeline with DTD Calculator. Note that you need to keep one modeline to be the value of your native resolution, otherwise you will lost your native resolution. Five modelines included as default, they are 800x480, 850x510, 880x528, 900x540, 1024x600.
5,Add: Language strings were exported into the ini file.
*What's new in 1.3.7:
1,Fix: Boot into 800x600 with downscaling.
2,Fix: Save the current resolution as basemode on error, if the save last mode option was enabled.
*What's new in 1.3.6:
1,Fix: AppWatching cause some program report a error on creating new process.
*What's new in 1.3.5:
1,Fix: Downscaling state does not swtich correctlly by tray menu.
2,Fix: Keyboard state GDI handle release problem.
3,Fix: AppWatching crash the explorer sometimes.
4,Fix: Wrong english spellings in UI.
*What's new in 1.3.0:
1,Add: Enable resolutions of 640x480,850x510,880x528,900x540,1000x600.
2,Add: Monitor Off
3,Add: Cursor Hide/Show
4,Add: A new AppWatching command syntax with cursor control.
5,Add: A new UI for resolution selection.
6,Add: HotKey to control Monitor Off/Cursor Hide/Resolution selection.
7,Add: Shadow of keyboard state font.
8,Add: QuickSwitch function for a rapid resulotion selection.
9,Add: Save last resolution mode.
10,Add: Moved all settings from registor to the ini file.
11,Add: Basemode param for stratup resolution.
12,Add: Refresh settings automatically.
13,Add: Reload tray menu automatically.
14,Add: Message for some errors.
15,Fix: Only one instance is allowed to run.
16,Fix: Conflict between appwatching and resolution selection, now you can force to select your selection when appwatching is working.
17,Fix: Redraw the tray icon after taskbar reloaded.
18,Fix: AppWatching now changes resolution before app was started.
19,Fix: Some minor bugs and memory leaks.
20,And maybe more... I've rewrited over 80% codes of AsTray Plus since version 1.2. So, I just can't remember every thing, sorry!^^
*Konwn issues:
1, If you see a square blinking on the right bottom in some games, please disable the keyboard state.
Wondering if you need one more param to control keyboard state in games.
2, Some games may cause a crash and reboot of windows with downscaling, it is recommeded to exit astray plus before you play this kind of games.
This really depends on the game itself.
3, When the cursor was hided by appwatching, it can't be showed after the app closed. You need to click one button of your mouse to recovery it.
There is a way to fix this, but it costs far more cpu and memoery usage. So, I decided to leave it there, since it's not a serious problem.

You can download this driver via intel's site.

*Tested with the following games, thanks for DeSYFA!

Re: AsTray Plus --- Updates & FAQ

Don't see theoption for 1000 x 600, was really looking forward to that. 640 x 480 works ok though.

Ah just saw the reference to "coming soon", sorry.

Re: AsTray Plus --- Updates & FAQ

Is this tested on the 2G yet?
When you say software, are you just editing the registry?

Re: AsTray Plus --- Updates & FAQ

I had the same issue as Addio EEE

When selecting 640x480 nothing happens and it sticks to whatever the res was before.. But after flicking back and forth to a different res many times it suddenly went into 640x480! Bit strange! It seems very temperamental to wanna go into the desired res. I'm using the Intel modded drivers.

Nice work tho and i'm thankful! Keep up the good work Bassam, maybe these small issues can be fixed.

Re: AsTray Plus --- Updates & FAQ

For some PC you need run astray+ once and restart your pc to get 640x480.
As you see, the code is not so stable until now, I'll fix the bugs to make the utility more stable.
1000x600 will not release unless I fixed all bugs for 640x480.

It seems that there's a driver-compatibility issues.
In the next few days I'll work to fix this problem.
How does the utility performs in game?
Did you tested that 2StepSteve?

exit astray+ and set resolution in display property, or reboot again...it should back to 800x480

Re: AsTray Plus --- Updates & FAQ

Well, it seems to be working for 640x480 for games. Had to remove VGA adapter first before it would work.

That being said, the desktop interface has some issues. It doesn't always switch resolutions when selected either stretched or scrolling. Looks like you're on the right track though! Keep it up! Get these glitches worked out and I'll gladly donate!

All,

This is a beta release, let's give BASSAM some time to iron out the issues. I'm sure he's working very hard to remedy the situation.

Re: AsTray Plus --- Updates & FAQ

will the 1000x600 resolution be a driver-scaled resolution, meaning it will be somewhat blurry, or is it a native resolution of the EeePC that is being exposed?

which driver should we be using with AsTray Plus?

The native resolution of the EeePC is 800x480 so you will NEVER see more pixels at once than 800x480.  So you can either leave pixels off the screen and scroll to them, or you can drop pixels out of the higher resolution as the raster is scanned. In either case you will obviously never see more pixels than the LCD has.

Re: AsTray Plus --- Updates & FAQ

Another issue I see. The CTRL-ALT-F11 won't switch stretched/scaling of 640x480 when running this app.
