Can Nlite change the lanuage of the os? ie im in Germany so onnnly get aGerman XP disk
for windows XP you'll have to purchase a MUI pack from Microsoft in order to change the language, which can be slipstreamed with nLite.

I have a 901 and in my BIOS "OS Installation" is not 1 of the options in the Advanced tab. How do I activate OS Installation?
Offline
you don't.

I had problems with this, but finally got it to work. However, when my 701 boots up, I get a screen asking which OS I want to start.
I installed XP Pro, but it shows two XP Pro installations and the original XP Home. Only the first XP Pro selection works, so I can use my EEEPC, but I don't want to have that screen show up every time.
How to I get it to recognize it only has one operating system?

If it will, without any interaction from yourself, select and boot the correct one after a timeout (30 seconds):
Rightclick my computer, properties, advanced->startup recovery settings->uncheck "time to display list of operating systems"
If you have to select a different entry other than the default for it to boot, you can change the "default" from the drop down box.
If you're more adventerous you can press the edit button and remove the uneeded entries from the boot.ini file. operating systems section. The default entry is the first entry.

Thanks for the great tutorial, I'm having a major issue getting my modem to work, though! When I try to run it (an emobile D11LC netstick) I get the following error:
"The driver installation for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows 95 or later."
I guess one of the components I chose to disable when I made my install CD is responsible, but I don't know which one...

if you have trouble to nlite your xp (it took me ages to recognize that i need the helpfiles from windows for my 3G modem to work) you can try with http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html
its a little bit more simple but not free
you can install a complete xp and after that - using this program - you can remove all you want, like in nlite, but you can also easy reinstall components as long as you have a XP-CD (you only need the i386 folder)

Thanks for the advice.
I did manage to get the right drivers in after reinstalling XP, however I've hit another snag...some of my Fn keys (including volume, mute, and wireless LAN on/off) appear to have lost function...for some reason the Sleep key does in fact work. Anyone know what's going on here or how to get those going? It's not because I removed HotKeyCmds, is it....?

I am attempting to make this install, but when I access BIOS to change the boot drive I don't have an option for "OS Installation" under the Advanced tab. I only have "IDE Configuration" and "Onboard Devices Configuration". Any Help?
ASUS 700 ACPI BIOS Revision 0401

@Megane: If you have installed the ACPI driver, and have AsACPISvr running in Task manager, it should work. What model do you have?
@dleon2000: Try installing it as it is.

@turionaltec I have a EEE PC 2G Surf.

Got past that hump. Windows formats, installs, reboots and during the Setup process I received a fatal error.
=====
The Signature for Windows XP Professional Setup is invalid. The error code is fffff05f.
The system cannot find message text for message number 0xfffff05f in the file for syssetup.dll.
Fatal Error:
Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information.

Are you booting off a CD-R or USB-flash?
If USB-Flash, what method did you use?
Did you try a full xp install to see if it worked?
What service pack level do you have?

Hi!
I went to see your vid & loved all of it.
Can you please help me with a problem?
Somehow, my Windows\system32\config\system got corrupted (totally not my doing, though) and I cannot get it repaired.
My Asus (701, 2G ram installed + gG + 16G SSHD installed) runs on XP Lite. I didn't do all this myself, I bought it thus done.
The guy I bought it from had made an image from the HD, that didn't do anything like booting.
Then I bought a WinXP +SP3 version and tried to boot/repair through that.
Didn't work, it started loading files then stopped with this error message:
0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xF748E0BF, 0xF78DA208, 0xF78D9F08).
I restarted, chose startup in safe mode, but got the same file missing yet.
I am kind of desparate & cannot afford to pay over $100 for repair guys!
Thanks for your help! Liesme

When you did the repair, was it off a USB CD drive? Did you change the BIOS setting "OS install" so it's not "Finished"?

Hi I used your first guide and got my Eee up and running with Xp in next to no time and the new guide looks even better.
I had a problem when trying to use a Mobile Internet Dongle I presume because the Modem drivers are disabled would you think that is all I need to enable or is there something else I might need. I have slipstreamed a cd of XP sp2 with Sp3 will this still work with your installation. I also suddenly lost the WiFi for some reason so need to do a re-install to get that back I presume. Liked the Video as well but how do you get time to watch all those DVD's!! Thanks for a great guide.

Hi i64X
I followed your instructions, but used an older version of XP Home (i.c. august 2002), no SP included.
At installation it gives me the message "I386 biosinf.inf could not be loaded Error 14.
Is this a solvable issue, or is the windows version just to old? What are your thoughts?
Thanks! Liesbeth

Slipstream SP3 into it.
Then try again.

Just an update, which may help liesme. Everything worked very well with the sp3 slipstreamed sp2 NLited XP disc and everything including my Mobile Broadband Stick, is back working with only a slightly larger footprint than the guide size. The only problem I have to sort now is probably not XP related. When I have click boxes showing like for instance "Next " "Continue" they are flashing very rapidly so I cant select the correct one. But I can't find a mention of it. If anybody has seen a solution please re-direct me.

I installed it, but it was among the startup programs deleted from regedit. When I re-install the ACPI driver now, it only functions until I reboot the computer - it doesn't add itself back to the startup list. Any ideas? I have a 701SD.
