I have been using my new installation of xandros for about a week now, removed unionfs, updated pidgin, skype, openoffice, 2 GB ram kernel. I am very happy with it and it took me a long time to set up. Now all of a sudden the eee pc refuses to get an IP address on any wireless network.
I haven't tried it on a wired network yet, but I'm going to assume that it will work. I will post on that when I get back tonight.
On any wireless network here at my school - there are 3 seperate networks I have tried - I just keep getting DHCPDISCOVER a couple times and it goes to pending. The signal strength on all of them are 100%, I have tried connecting to them in multiple locations (one is a distributed network, many access points, I have tried the fix for WDS networks). The others are pay wireless networks, but usually I can connect and get an ip address and it will redirect me to a login.
I have tried every step listed on this page three times: http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:wireless_unexpected_stop
I am getting quite frustrated and I hope it's not a hardware problem. Do I have to reformat? should I reformat? I really don't want to go through all that customization again. Does anyone have any ideas?

had similar issues to yours - i set the software back to its original state as a last resort and the things been working just fine since then.
haven't looked at the wiki in a while, but if you search there are a lot of threads with various suggestions that seem to work for some people.
i hope it doesn't happen again because i'd hate to redo all the customizing (i'm a linux newb). if you find out how to reset the software but not lose the customization please post! i'd like to know how to do that.......

Could there be a connection between this problem and removing the unionfs partition?
EDIT: More realistically, could there be a connection between the precompiled 2GB kernel and this problem...??? I just realized that this may have started around the time I made that modification. I would revert it and try it myself but I am not close enough to the wireless network right now.

Just been through the same set of wireless issues. Finally resolved it after I realized that many of the IP configs are sticky.
I fixed my connectivity by manually setting the DNS address in each profile to a common public DNS and adjusting the network profile priorities in the network prefs. Other tip is to disable the ethernet connection when you are unplugged and want to use wireless.
hope it helps

If I can't get an IP, manually setting a dns address isn't going to work.

Same issue with unmodified Xandros and Netgear WG 102, to which I connect flawlessly from my Thinkpad. From eeepc I find the wireless networks, but can't connect.
- Tried various ecryptions (WEP, WPA, WPA2), also unencrypted transfer.
- Tried static IP settings. With static IP addresses the connection is up, but no internal ip address is reachable.
- Connecting from eeeXubuntu via gnome nm-applet also didn't work (no connection established)
Anybody got this working?

If I can't fix it by this weekend, I will just reformat ![]()

there are at least 10 - 15 posts on this topic already - do a search on DHCP sleeping or something
i'd do it, but then again, so can you ![]()

I'm not a techie so if anyone is kind enough to help, fyi. My wireless connection worked "out of the box" but now it sees wireless connections but won't connect. I deleted all the connections, rebooted, disconnected the battery, added the networks and every time it goes back to "bringing down the network interface" and then lands in "pending" where it just sits.
I'm not sure what putting the software back to its original state means. Can anyone describe how to fix this in plain english? Thanks!

Well, on Monday I called asus. About 45 minutes later we "set up" a return but i never got the e-mail with instructions. But randomly this morning my wireless seems to have started working again.... What...? Oh well I'm a bit pissed because I'm kind of worried if this happens again when I need it.

There are indeed several posts for this problem - I have had the same problem myself. I do not believe that it is more than a slight bug (I do not think that alterations to all and sundry are necessary, such as your router etc.), and I solved mine by doing the following:
run sudo XandrosFileManager (open the file manager as root)
find file /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/debug
open the file and change the line:
RUN="no"
to
RUN="yes"
This is intended to debug the file by putting the results in /tmp/dhclient-script.debug. It does, but the system worked immediately afterwards!
There is a file file /etc/dhcp3/dhclient-exit-hooks.d/debug, but I have not changed that - yet!
Hope that this works for you too

have similar problem
i think it may be because of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-eeepc … viewstatus
the mac address on the wireless seems to randomly change

xt, you linked to a bug in ubuntu but this section of the board, we are using the default Xandros so that bug would not affect our distro.

I had this "pending" problem all the time. If the Eee didn't connect the first time, it would have 4 attempts at getting an IP from the DCHP in my router and then just sit there saying "Pending". I tried loads of things and read all of the tips and tricks in all the various forums. I was going to install XP and put up with the slow boot time when eventually I got it sorted for my specific hardware, so this may or may not work for you and some of the things I did may have nothing to do with the fact that my Eee connects first time all of the time but just encase I've listed everything I did to get it working perfectly :
Hardware :
Eee 901 Standard Linux O/S all current updates installed
Netgear :DG834v2 Modem / Router - connected via wireless
1. I gave the Eee a Static (Fixed) IP in the router - I my case 192.168.0.6
2. Changed the Eee from DHCP assigned IP to Static IP
3. Manually entered all DNS, subnet mask, gateway info etc. - I my case 192.168.0.1 / 255.255.255.0
4. Changed my Wireless Encryption from WPA to WEP 128 Bit - I know it is inferior but I'm not that worried
Bang. Now it works like a dream which is great because I've put up with this for months now but no more.
I hope this helps somebody else.
