SetFSB is a great overclocking utility made by ABO. His homepage: http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/
Don't forget to donate to him if you like his program ^^
I have made a few changes to his program (mainly deleting all the non 1000he options ^^) so now overclocking is just a few clicks away ^^

Things you should know before overclocking:
Supposedly cheap-end consumer computers should not be able to have access to overclocking features. Using a program like SetFSB may void your warranty (should they find out you are using setfsb). Be responsible by not "overdoing it"
WHAT IS FSB?
FSB is your Front Side Bus Clock, it is the clock that dictates the speed of everything on your motherboard: Ram/CPU (possibly even the Integrated Graphics). Where normal references to overclocking refers to speeding up the CPU, or GPU, (since the 1000he does not have these abilities (debatable
) ), overclocking the Front Side Bus is the only way to get the Intel Atom to run faster ![]()
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF RAM IN OVERCLOCKING?
Overclocking the FSB, as stated again, increases the speed of everything, including your ram. Different Ram have different speed specs that they can operate at. A computer as a whole works by coordinating billions of addition sequences in a second, If your ram cannot keep up with the rest of the computer, one missed digit would cause a complete utter System crash. There are different specs of ram in concerns to your 1000he:
The default ram in a 1000he is a DDR2 PC5400 1gb stick, the 5400 means that the chip is rated for 667mhz highest
Ram that is good for overclocking is DDR2 PC6700 ram, the 6700 means that the chip is rated for 800mhz highest
If you go to the bottom of the post, there is a link to CPUID (CPUZ), if you launch that program, you will be able to see your FSB speed in mhz, this is tied closely to your ram speed. Ram is important, If you want to get faster overclocking speeds, 6700 800mhz ram is a must.
When I say 667mhz and 800mhz highest, I mean that those speeds are the "garunteed" highest speed of the ram, assigned by the ram manufacturers. If you look at your FSB when on SuperPerformance mode in SHE, you will see that even if your ram is 667mhz rated, SHE runs it to 700mhz (this would explain why some computers crash with SHE even if they just bought it).
I don't want to burn out my Atom CPU, do I have to worry?
No, You don't have to worry about your CPU, it can run well beyond the other components of the netbook can. You will reach a freezeup long before you could push the cpu hard enough to burn out. Also there is a safecheck inside the Atom Processor where if it gets too hot(~100*C), it will halt all functions until the heat goes down. There are people who have been able to overclock the atom to speeds well beyond 2ghz, (highest Ive seen is 2.4ghz). The atom processor is a great processor to overclock ^-^

You do not need to uninstall SHE - I actually recommend using SHE and SetFSB at the same time ![]()
Please read how to fix your 1000he if you over-overclock or under-underclock - You need to unplug the AC plug and remove the battery, Wait 5 seconds and then plug everything back in and restart ^^
______________________________________________________________
Steps for Overclocking:
Extract the modified SetFSB files from the zip
Set SHE to SuperPerformance mode
Run SetFSB.exe
Click GetFSB
The slider should be somewhere between 190/760 and 206/760
Move the slider to the right, by about 10
Click Set FSB
Check stability using stability/monitoring programs: (I provide some below)
Keep moving the slider and hitting "set fsb" until your computer freezes - that is your max FSB
Restart your computer (by removing plug and battery) and set the FSB about ~7-15 below that number.
You have successfully Overclocked your 1000he ![]()
My max is about 250/760 which is 1910mhz on the Atom
Steps for Underclocking:
Extract the modified SetFSB files from the zip
Set SHE to PowerSaver mode
Run SetFSB.exe
Click GetFSB
The slider should be somewhere between 170/760 and 185/760
Move the slider to the left, by about 10
Click Set FSB
Check stability using stability/monitoring programs: (I provide some below)
Keep moving the slider and hitting "set fsb" until your computer freezes - that is your min FSB
Restart your computer (by removing plug and battery) and set the FSB about ~5-15 above that number.
You have successfully Underclocked your 1000he ![]()
My min is about 140/760 which is 1132mhz on the atom (multiplierx6=670mhz) ![]()

Keeping your settings after reboots
If you are one of those who wants to keep these settings and do not feel like changing them in the future:
This sacrifices the use of SHE commands (I believe unless the hot keys launch SHE again)
Steps:
Hit the keys: "Super"(the window logo key) and "R" at the same time
Type in the command "MSconfig" and hit run
The Microsoft Configuration window should come up
Click the startup tab
Find the program "SuperHybridEngine" and uncheck it.
Restart your computer after setting a clock using SetFSB
Your settings should stay ^-^

Here are some good programs to run while clocking:
My edited EEEctrl config with fan on high: http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewpoll.php?id=65634
CPUID - Gives you Current data on your Clocks: http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpuz_150.zip
__________ know that your CPU speed steps: so when the multiplier is x6 you wont be running your full MHZ you need to run something that pushes your CPU (movie or youtube) that makes your multiplier x10, that is your true MHZ
HWmonitor - Gives you current data on the heat of your netbook: http://www.cpuid.com/download/HWMonitor_113.zip
__________ know that you should stay below 80C* at all times for all temperatures
Both CPUID and HWmonitor belong here: http://www.cpuid.com/
Prime95 - Stress tests your computer to check stability: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=103

Thanks a lot CMS.
You have really just compiled all your posts regarding the matter into the one thread post so thanks!
However, if you are unable to go above 212 in setfsb could this be for any particular reason? or is it just luck how far you are able to overclock your 1000he?
PS. You should edit your post to include an 'importance of ram' section ie the affect ram has on over clocking ability.
Great work!

You kinda answered your own question
, I would say that its a ram issue if you cant get above 212
are you using 800mhz ram? what is the CL timings?

First of all thanks for the SetFSB & eeectl ini! As a new eee owner, but a fairly old OC'er one of the things I noticed is that the ram is being run with the timings from its 266 speed settings. If you notice on the boot screen the ram (atleast mine) shows up as 533, but we know default its running 667, So once we push the FSB those really tight timings are going to limit the FSB likely before the CPU is at its limit.
I"m going to play around with SPDtool and set the timings for 266 a bit looser (what they are supposed to be for 400) ad see if it affects the OC.
Also, I'd like to see people use one standard benchmark to isolate the CPU/RAM. Could we start using superPi to illustrate the performance gains from the OC/timings instead of using a benchmark that takes graphics and HDD into consideration? I'm excited to see what we can squeeze out of these little guys. ![]()

I'm waiting to order new ram next week before I attempt to over-clock beyond SHE settings. Anyone have any tips for RAM? Obviously 800mhz but any particular brand I should look for?
Thanks for the guide cms. It will make my attepmt next week a much easier experience.

Cool, so what does the performance imporvement you are seeing when overclocking look likve versus a stock 1000HE? It would also be interesting to see what peoples performance looks like one older BIOS vs newer that change the SHE performance.
Is there a specific version of the BIOS you are using?
Offline
He does have superPi referenced above but the BIOS info would be good to know as well (with posted results)

Im using 601 for the stock high SHE, but your overclocking with SetFSB should not be affected.
You should still reach the same High FSB regardless of Bios

Hey Cms, thanks for this great guide and your work to tailoring it for the HE.

I didn't know it would stay like that. Interesting.

Hey CMS, thanks for your work !!
Questions: Is it correct that the overclocking is reset allways after I change the performance by the SHE?
And if the answer is YES: Is there a way to store the overclocking?
Regards from Europe :-)

Searched and googled but couldn't find anything specific to the 1000HE. Is there any auto setFSB tool that you can run during start-up so the OC settings will stick?
Thx.
