Hey

Searching through the forum I see there has been hit n miss results. Basically I've been trying to use rdesktop to connect to our servers. I get Segmentation Fault when trying to connect to a Windows 2003 Server but, I can connect to a windows 2000 server, although it does crash out every now and again with a Segmentation Fault aswell.

I've been using this command to run it "rdesktop -f -a 8 servername -u username"

Am I missing something? Any ideas? I have know idea how to find what version of rdesktop I am running either, new to the Eeepc's!

Thanks

I use:
rdesktop -f -u username -p password -r sound:local servername
to connect locally.

rdesktop -f -u username -p password -r sound:local IP-address
to connect over the internet.

I am connecting to XP pro.

Type rdesktop with no parameters to view the help screen.

the EeePC has version 1.5.0 of rdesktop.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

I've just receieved five of these (model 701) white. I'm also experiencing the same issue when connecting to a 2003 TS. Perhaps the issue is apparent on newer batches?

Sorted. Used the utility on the supplied CD to create a bootable recovery memory stick. Installed the OS from here and rdesktop works fine now.

Installed the OS from where sorry? I'm trying to get into my uni's computers but it crashes as I login everytime. It's just an eeepc issue, as rdesktop works fine from my other laptop and main computer (both running ubuntu though).
Might see if I can upgrade/downgrade rdesktop..

I put the DVD that is supplied with the eeepc into an XP computer. On the DVD (under utilities I think) there is the option to create a recovery disk on a USB flash memory stick. The stick needs to be at least 1GB.

Run the utility which formats and copies the recovery image to the memory stick.
Insert the memory stick into your eeepc and boot to it.

Ctrl-Alt-Enter

KRDC is also provided in Xandros and maybe a little more user friendly - a GUI is used for initial connection options and both RDP and VNC protocols are supported. Just type krdc from the console.

Same for me. rdesktop provide with default install (even with full OS reinstall from DVD)
I got segmentation fault

I resolve the problem by removing standard rdesktop package and replacing it by debian edge one
(http://packages.debi...g/etch/rdesktop)

sudo dpkg -r --ignore-depends=krdc rdesktop
wget http://http.us.debian.org/debian/pool/main/r/rdesktop/rdesktop_1.5.0-1etch1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i rdesktop_1.5.0-1etch1_i386.deb
now, rdesktop works fine (xp pro and windows 2003)

I had been wondering about this.

I booted Puppy and ran gparted on my EeePC 4g.

As you can see the SYSTEM partition takes up more than 2 gig.
It looks like our friends with 2 gig machines are going to find other things missing.

Do other 2G EEEs have the software, or is this discussion mainly from people with 4G EEEs?

This has not come up before to my knowledge, most of the people here must have 4 gig machines.

I have the 2G EeePC, and rdesktop was present but I too had the problem that it would rarely connect (via an Ethernet network); it displayed the remote window for entering the username and password, but when I entered those it crashed back to the desktop. In some fear and trembling, I entered the commands suggested by llicour in message 12 above, and once I could type the long one correctly(!), and not having a clue what I was doing, to my surprise and relief it worked, not just once but several times.

I do have one complaint about it. Does anyone know how I can resize it so that the desktop actually fits on the screen? It is too tall, so I have to move it up and down with alt to get at items.

One down and many to go!

Here's my (slightly edited) command line that brings my remote desktop up full screen

rdesktop -u my_user_name -p my_password -g workarea -a 16 -f my_remote_ip

"man rdesktop" will fill you in on the nitty gritty details of "-g workarea" and "-f".

How do I change the default Keyboard map?
Instruction says use the -k switch but I just get an error saying failed to open keymap.

PS. mine is a 4G and RDesktop was installed by default.

Brilliant thanks for that; worked a treat once I had worked out that all those l letters were actually the number 1!
