So I basically just unboxed my new eee 4g galaxy (love it btw) and tried to connect to my home network. I opened up the wifi manager, selected my router and inputted my WEP key (yeh I know WEP is insecure blah blah blah, its only there to keep my parents happy) So I enter the key, press OK, and the connection box comes up and I just get a "Pending..." message that never changes.

I tried connection via the network manager with the same result. I also tried connection to an unprotected network in range with the same result.

does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Check your settings on the router for the type of connection it wants - Open, Channel, etc. Make sure these match on the eeePC. Also triple check your WEP key.

By the way - you did turn wifi ON (FN-F2) didn't you? Do you see the little blue light?

There are a number of possible solutions which can be found by searching the forum for "pending" but, in the first place, I would suggest you try rebooting your router (pull the power cable out, leave for 30 seconds) and try again.

To search press the link in the top blue bar of the forum or press Search here

yes I see a little blue light (also I can scan for networks), the WEP key is correct its a copya-pasta and it works on my other box. and my router settings seem to be correct =/

so I have no idea what it could be.

I already searched the forums, none of the solutions worked unfortunately. I tried rebooting my router while trying said solutions and that didn't work, also I get the same message on all routers I try and connect too.

Keep on trying different open networks, cafes, macdonalds etc. Only use networks with strong signals, 90% + as a weak signal can also cause a DHCP failure. If a network pends then make sure you disconnect it before trying again on that one or on another network. It should do that automatically but sometimes it doesn't work. Sometimes, even deleting your "failed" connection and trying afresh can work better. View the connection properties in the network connections box. Make sure it is on DHCP and not static (unless you kow the static stettings, mask, default gateway etc for that network). View the "details" when you are connecting and make sure it is making 3 or 4 DCHP attempts before pending. If it continues to fail on every open network you try, probably your wireless card is faulty. RTB warranty time.

this is an ongoing and so far unexplained problem. I had it when i started. i don't know what fixed it, but changing from dhcp to static helped, but then you need to get all the correct settings for ip and dns from somewhere (like another laptoP)

i found that changing the settings to 'on boot' may have helped and also getting rid of all the other connections and starting again from network connections and not wireles networks helped. I had this problem on open and unencrypted wifi so i don't think it is a wep problem but a dns one.

my home one now works fine so it is difficult to experiment with it to try and find the cause.. i think it is dhcp related though

search also for DHCP for more sufferers

From what I've read it is more likely a dhcp problem ie Getting the router to assign you an ip address, but sometimes this can be caused by a wireless problem. For example I have moved out of range into a yellow signal less than 66% and have been told "no working leases, no dhcp offers" but then moved in better range and got an ip assigned, so that was likely signal strength but it was reported as dhcp problem, pending.

Then again I connected to free bar wifi one day, and the next nothing, and the next time nothing. So, I told them to try rebooting their wireless router and the next time I came it worked. All I can suggest is keep on trying all the fixes, but generally no dhcp offers, pending seems to cover a multitude of sins. I wish it would be more specific such as "signal strength insufficient" or "your mac address is not recognised" or "this connection needs to be reset because it is retaining an expired ip" or something more frigging descriptive than "pending".

Well, tried everything suggested, what finally fixed it was typing the WEP key in all caps, never had to do that on any system, no matter what so, but hey, it worked.

I have also had this issue. It seems like a software problem. I have a few imac's on my network and they work fine, but the eee stays in pending mode (although it sees networks) I unplugged and my router and modem even though my mac's worked and then the eee started to work... weird.

I've also had it stay on pending even though it connected to the network and was online just fine...

One more thing to try is making sure the little "Enable Wireless" box is checked in the Wireless Networking dialog box...no clue how or why, but I've had this be UN-checked even with the blue light on and wifi working...

When i first unboxed it and was setting up the wifi, I faced the same problem. Then I checked "All Channels" in the wifi settings box and it worked after that.

I found two problems connecting to a Netgear DG834 Wireless Router

1) Non-alphanumeric characters in the WPA pre-shared key (PSK). I couldn't connect with an ! in the PSK.
2) You need to enter a value in the Key Index when entering the PSK. I set it to 1 and it connected OK.

My new 4G black Eee is surfing away merrily!

Hi to everyone.

I bought an EeePC 4G 701 a couple of days ago and I can't connect to any network. The same as you all, the Pending message is always there. Anyone find another solution?
I wrote to the technical support and they answered to try this:

About your problem, I guess you mostly use the encrypted AP. You'd better try below steps.
1: Choose "Network" in the Internet option, disconnect it and then delete the Connection in the "Manage".
2: Click "Create" to recreate the connection, choose "Local Area Network- Wireless", then Next.
3: Choose "Next".
4: Select Address Type, and then Next.
5: Browse Wireless Networks and then choose the one you want to use, choose the mode to be "infrastructure" and the Transfer rate to be "auto", and then Next.
6: Wireless Channel Settings, choose any channel.
7: If your AP is using the WEP or WPA encryption, you need to choose "Enable encryption" and then input the Key and Key index, choose Next.
8: Fill in the Name of connection, then choose Next.
9: You can choose the "Connect automatically at system startup" or "Start this connection when finished" if you want, and then choose Finish.

I didn't tried yet, since I'm at work. Ill try it this afternoon at home.
If anyone try this now, please let me know how it went with it.

Thanks,

GUs131

I've just found a solution to my problem connecting to wireless access point with 128bit WEP key. Tried suggestions from lots of threads (infrastructure mode etc), but got no address and 'pending'.

In the end I tried the following in a console and it burst into life:

sudo iwconfig ath0 essid "<yourSSIDhere>"

No idea what will happen on rebooting.

Andy.

I just used ANDY s idea & it worked....

ROUTER : NETGEAR WGT624 v3

Here is what I did...
Brought up the router on my Win PC so I could check status
Made sure the eeePC was not in the list of attached devices.
Checked the properties of the connection & checked ANY for the channel
Tried connecting got the no DHCPoffers error & status was pending
did the sudo iwconfig
as soon as I did it, the router showed me as connected BUT I couldn't do anything on the eeePC - it still said pending
I did a reconnect of the router.. still no good
changed properites to the correct channel
eeePC asked me if I wanted to reconnect & I said yes...
ALL OK...
Looks like I had to do the sudo iwconfig before trying to connect??

Now I will fool around with various alternatives to see if I can get a consistant connection
4 Gig surf - easy mode with many changes/upgrades
installed XP then moved it to a USB stick
900A - trying to get 16 gig SSD to work

For your information: This was the solution working for me. I described it in the following post.

Good luck
