*** DealExtreme and elsewhere solderless kit warning!

Here is the BIGGER new problem, the manufacturing is complete crud.
Not one or 2 but 3 of the included cables were wired wrong. Before I took apart the system I tested and because I didn't see this type of problem mentioned in the 'successful' install threads it took an hour to figure why the touch screen would not calibrate.
With that really cruddy problem solved I proceeded to install the hub ... installed it and tried to test it ... it overheated! I mean hot hot hot. No apparent cause except a bad component. Now it wont work at all and if you plug it into the port it immediately hits 150f
Not sure if it was due to the overheating or the cause of the overheating but you can see some of the solder points on one of the ic chips all bled together
So ... I don't know if this was just a bad board build or what but the overheating aside .. 3 bad cables is just BS. They were not even consistently wrong like you would see if someone got the order confused in their head. The miswire was completely random as if the assembler just mashed in the 4 wires without even looking, or perhaps is color blind seeing as how red and green are the most common color blind colors ...
Also worth noting is that the HUB is the same one used with this other kit from ebay. This thread also mentions wiring issues.

So at a minimum ... dont try to install these kits before you recheck the wiring on all the cables and look over the soldering to see if you have any double solders.
As far as deal extreme ... When I ordered the touch kit I also order a group of other cheapo toys and gadgets , those arrived relatively ontime and their quality was as expected. So I don't want to bash them for more then reselling this product specifically.

Unfortunately Deal Extreme is like shopping on eBay, every seller is different and some are more reputable than others. You should leave a review on the sellers page to warn others.

You'll need a multi-meter to check if the cables lead to the same point, but keep in mind the controller card could have a different arrangement and you'll have to check it as well to see if the wiring leads to the corresponding point on the controller card.

Maybe if minor overheating caused a short which then really overheated the board then it might be possible it was a first gen but this isn't just running warm and not working, this is complete short ... like heat a drink up or reflow solder kind of heat. No foil would help. I am more peeved about the wires something so basic shouldnt be so poorly done.
FYI the camera port end of the cable was about the only one wired properly. Be sure to check all ends.

Double check all connections with a multi-meter.

The problem was that one of the axes on the screen was reading incorrectly and another person said they had this problem and that switching the black and white wires on the touchscreen end of the controller to touchscreen cable was the solution. Worked for me! Now all is well with the touchscreen functionality but I'll admit that I haven't tried out the USB hub yet and it looks like two of the pins on one of the smaller ICs are soldered together... Not sure if this is an accident or not, but I don't think my soldering skills are good enough to fix it.
So, all is well for now, but definitely make sure you test these units outside the case before putting everything back together.
Edit: If BOTH axes are reading incorrectly, try plugging in the ribbon the other way first.

Edit: Perhaps that "short" between the two pins on the lower right IC is really the "jumper" that they said should be there.

Having a close look see at my replacement its really the same as the above picture. The two IC pins still appear to be joined by a tiny bit of solder. Before I sent the board back I wrote and sent pictures of the board to them. They told me that the large jumper was supposed to be there but didn't comment at all on the IC pins being shorted. I'll give this board a try to see what happens. So I guess this is a multipurpose board (touch screen and USB hub) with different builds out there.

I got the "wavy lines" while overclocking to 900 mhz for the first time today while the new usb touchscreen was connected. I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence or if it was actually related in some way, but I disconnected the touchscreen, restarted, and was able to successfully overclock to 900mhz without the wavy lines. When I brought it back to stock speed (630mhz) I plugged in the touchscreen and it seems to be working fine.
