I installed the Advanced desktop as per Wiki.
I then installed Compiz - as per http://technowizah.c...glx-compiz.html

So now compiz is working impressively (I just wanted to show off the eeePC) but transparency is not working correctly (setting a window transparent just makes it go dark) - most annoying is that all windows seem to have a transparent border (maybe shadow) that appears black - so I'd like to turn it off.
Any idea how to configure compiz in this environment? The config plugin seems to be designed for Gnome and I can't find how to launch it.

That link worked for installing compiz to the stock xandros nicely, good find. I am testing it out now.

You can edit settings by installing gconf-editor and running from command line.

ok, here's some follow-up info:

video will generally not work with compiz, so here's what to do to revert back to the default windows manager if needed:
go to your console, make sure you're in root, and type:

kwin --replace

that's it, should be good to go
To revert to compiz just type:

compiz --replace

ok, so that makes one issue tolerable - next -> window size is too long, and locked from dragging above top edge:

get the gconf editor: **Note i've added the debian reposis' ala. the wiki, and enabled pinning as shown

sudo apt-get install gconf-editor

let it finish, then type in:

gconf-editor &

go through the logical progression (apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options)
scroll to the shortcut for maximize vertically and change from Disabled to:

<Alt>F10

now this should take effect immediately, so alt+F10 to bring the windows to size

ok...... its now 4am and i have class in 5 hours..... more to come - from me and hopefully others!!!

Please let me know of any results you have - similar or otherwise :)

Ok - I followed the WIKI and got lost on the "MAXIMIZE VERTICALLY" part. There is no command that simply says "maximize vertically" there are four key that include those terms: maximize_window_vertically_bell, maximize_window_vertically_button_, maximize_window_vertically_edge, maximize_window_vertically_key) Which one do you mean? And now I've screwed them up, and don't know what the defaults for each of these should be.

Thanks

not sure if they were set to anything by default, but i used maximize_window_vertically_key and typed in '<Alt>F10

you can also change maximize horizontal key to alt F11 just in case

Hope this helps, let me know

I'm new to linux and need some help. After three days of having my eee pc and working with linux ive managed to learn quite a bit, but im still pretty new.

in reference to installing compiz through the terminal command "sudo apt-get install compiz" I get the error: Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package compiz

can anyone tell me what im doing wrong?

I've installed things through the terminal before and from what i understand i need to specify a website to get the repository from, is this correct?

Edit:: Never mind, the repositories randomly appeared, got it installed and working beautifully now :)

Ok, so we have compiz working with some quirks, cerntainly not stable yet, can we do anything further to make it more functional? Learning the hot keys through the configuration editor really helps. I tried to add a command to my menu via menu editor for the "sudo compiz --replace", and "sudo kwin --replace and it doesnt seem to work that well.

I really like the lite footprint, load speed, and general stability of the default xandros os and dont really want to put on ubuntu just for compiz but compiz really makes it user friendly with the small screen. Is anyone working on this?

Could someone help me add the shortcut that would run the command lines to toggle compiz and kwin window managers?

Also, whats the difference between the "3ddesktop" that is in the xandros repositories and compiz? would that be a better option?

I installed Compiz the other night and posted a video to my blog. I filmed it using my Nokia N80 so the quality is... well.. it is what it is ;-)

Check it out if you're curious at: http://wiiwarrior.bl...h-my-eeepc.html
