Bummer, I did a restore to the default OS and since then the webcam has stopped working.

Interestingly the BIOS had the webcam disabled so I enabled it.

But the system diags don't see the camera and the webcam app just gives me a blank screen, although the webcam app does turn on the green led.

the app eeecamtray seg faults for me and doing:

echo 1 > /proc/acpi/asus/camera

doesn't change a thing.

Any suggestions out there?

I'm going to put the old 512M stick back in and see if that changes anything. (doubtful)

thx in advance..

Oh but I did use the search, quite extensively.

it's not in the wiki and searching for 'dead webcam', 'inactive webcam', even 'webcam' didn't turn up anything.

I didn't think to search on 'webcam black image' which gets to the discussion. Note that I was using the diagnostics to determine that the webcam was not working...

Thanks for the help..

I have a USB WebCam that lists correctly when I run Diagnostics > USB > Test as "VIMICRO Corp PCam". Is there a way to activate this external web cam for use with Skype or reording video application ?

ADDED: I also tried my Creative Optia and it also shows up correctly in Diagnostics but no connect in Skype or recording application. ????

I also have an external USB webcam that lists correctly in Diagnostics > USB > Test, but Skype reports "No devices found."

Do I need to enable this device? And where do I enable it?
