After what seemed to be like weeks of negotiations with the manufacture, patents, notarization blah blah blah. I finally got the OK from my lawyer to release the pics to this product. Pics are only the early stages of the version 1.0 prototype. Some of the things missing from the prototype are the speaker holes and the indents for the touch screen controller board.

The Kit sits flush with the rest of the case so it doesn't bulge out or squish anything.

Wasn't 2.0 the one with the slide out keyboard? I personally would like the non-slide out version as all I want to do is mount it in my VW Camper and use it for GPS/Media/Internet etc...

MAKE THE 900 VERSION! :P

Of course that would require changing my 900... wonder how I can convince my parents to let me...

looks nice, finally some proper pics of what the mod will roughly look like :D, hope the release is soon so i can order again

just a question, is the new shell going to be as thick as the wood you used for the prototype, or will it be more thin and hollow?

thanks for the pics

This is brilliant, thank you for posting these pics. It gives a much better idea of what you are looking for. Good luck on the development. I won't be an early adopter of this because I've never even opened the case on my eee (though I am an early adopter of the eee pc 701). Once I see reports on this site from those more techinically skilled than I, I will certainly end up buying this.

One of the things I like about your plans for this is that you are designing it to be a reversible process. Well done on the prototype, I will continue to monitor this. A great price to make something cool even cooler. Well done.

Your mod will still allow the eee to be stored in the original slip case that came with it, one thing you may consider adding to your mod kit is a slim, flat plastic sheet (I know I can buy anywhere but having it inclusive might be nice) as a hard screen protector when the eee is stored in the soft case.

If people get this, there is a lot of room where the hinges used to be so that might give rise to new mods in that region. I was thinking of putting an RP-SMA connector there and maybe my USB GPS

Congrats PvP! :) ... guess this should put many ppl's heart at rest ... and for some, their mouth sealed as well ;)

Maybe a 2.0 version can include buttons on the two sides. eg Rotate screen, toggle onscreen keyboard, qwerty thumbboard? :)
I just finished modding touchscreen to my 701/4G. Now trying to fix the resume issue.

Manufacture wants to know if I want speakers. Do you guys want speaker ports on this kit? I find speakers a must but if u dont want them, I won't put them on.

speaker ports as in the holes for the sound to go through or do you mean something else? if its holes then i would suggest you put them in just so if people want to use the speakers, they don't have to tamper with making it themselves which might damage the new case

Great progress PvP.
Hope to see this on the market soon.
I dont mean to be rude, but this is just a product a minority will buy.
Why are you getting lawyers involved, dont you just need yourself, a moulder, and maybe a a large shipment of packaging ?

You would essentially end up with something like a did a few weeks ago.

These EEE PC's are currently being painted.
It are prototypes and won't be sold.
It's my EEE PC and one for my brother ( as a birthday present ).

I did include the speakers, because I didn't need to remove them.
If it would've taken me more effort to keep them in, I would've removed them.

You're using the actual shell that includes the speaker grill and slot making it easy for you to include/exclude.

True, If it would cost more, I would consider leaving them out.
Most of the people use their headphones anyway.
