I imagine everybody knows this already but atheros released a patch yesterday for madwifi which allows madwifi to work on an eee with any Linux distribution. Ie, ndiswrapper can now be placed into its proper place - the trashcan.

It takes about 5 minutes :).

I also updated the wiki: http://wiki.eeeuser....madwifi_drivers

Those should be as "cut and paste" friendly as possible.

Note: the native drivers solved the issue for me where ndiswrapper was using 50% of the cpu. Eliminating ndiswrapper eliminated the resource leak.

Hah, figures, I just restored to xandros because ndiswrapper was hogging my CPU. Great news! Now to dig out a CD-ROM to do a livecd install, because the minimal memory stick netinst was too much of a trip back to 1998 for my tastes. :)

removed the blacklist file, then reebooted

and in Network Connection applet changed to wlan0 and it worked as charm ;)

It seems like it loads the ndiswrapper instead of the ath_pci module, even after I removed the blacklist. If I do rmmod ndiswrapper and modprobe ath_pci it seems to be working, but not when I reboot the system. Do I need to something else than installing it? Just remove the blacklist?

You can remove ndiswrapper (that's what I did) or blacklist ndiswrapper.

Even after removing ndiswrapper-common and -utils, it still loads ndiswrapper. I can see it with lsmod. And the ath_pci doesn't get loaded.

Yes! Now it works. I needed to remove the /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper file.

Does this madwifi driver support monitor mode? and what about using aireplay? Does this drivers support injection of traficc?

I can confirm that it worked, but it was feeling fragile, so I'm going to take another whack at it.

I could either get the 5-bar wifi hotspot finder in the taskbar on top, or I could get it so that it was in /etc/network/interfaces, but I couldn't get _both_. Eventually I got it so that it was just magically "working" and pinging my router, but no 5-bar display up top. I had some trouble with the atl2 driver spontaneously deciding to not see the switch, though, so I had done some poking around with modules prior to patching madwifi..

Kismet works so I imagine monitor mode works. I imagine the drivers can be patched for injection as well although that is another matter.
