I have xp on my black eee pc and my battery percentage is stuck at 20%. Is there any reason it refuses to report the correct %?

Did you install the ASUS ACPI driver?

I believe so, and I even did a repair install for good measure. I also verified all drivers were installed in Dev manager and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Any other ideas to help me out? thanks

Double click the taskbar battery icon.

Then click on the battery in the square under the #1.

What does the battery status read?

Go into Device Manager and expand the 'System devices' driver tree. Do you see 'ASUS ACPI Driver'?

Yep it shows as though it's installed. BTW the battery is now jumping from 20 to 30 and back randomly.

Sounds like a bad battery or bad charger. Contact an ASUS for warranty replacement. Hopefully you won't have to send the whole machine in, as I'm sure you have spent plenty of time getting it configured for XP.

the battery indicator is not always correct on XP. try charing the EEE until the battery light goes off. then restart, it should show 100%. When you are charging, the battery indicator will not go up until you restart the computer. Also, it might only display an approximate charge, that might explain the back and forth 20 - 30 %. I think of it as the way that it is include in the original OS (cannot see % or bars when plugged in), when unplug it goes about 90 80 70 60 50 30 20 10%.

Anyhow, i hope this is helpful.

It depends, If you turn the EEE off, you should be able to have a full charge around 3 hours. But if you use it while plugged in, it will take a LONG time.

mine ended up being fine, yours probably is also. it takes a LONG time to charge if ur using the pc while its plugged in, and maybe 3hr while its shut down. asus says the indicator is only a rough estmate for battery percentage.

Mine is stuck now too
at 20

but it wasn;t earlier when installing (without charger)

I feel (could be wrong though) that whe the machine is hot (and the fan is on)
it hardly charges at all!

When the EEE is still cool the first one and a half hour or so, it charges more rapidly.

The little power supply can barely keep up when you are using your E while it is plugged in. So yes, it can take a looooong time to charge. Give it a few hours charging while turned off and it should charge normally. The charger has low amperage.
