hi everyone

i followed everything in the nLite WIKI on this site, to make my 'genuine' windows xp pro nLite. everything installed perfectly and is running excellent. however, when i go onto the windows update website, it installs all the active x controls etc, but when it comes to downloading the WGA plug-in, it says download failed. i have disabled antivirus and firewall, but still same prob. its failing on the download.

i enabled automatic updates, and XP showed me the updates available. i selected which to download and install, but so far its done nothing since then. it hasnt downloaded and installed them for me.

this never happened when i installed the fully-fledged win xp pro sp2. is only happening from this nLite install.

any advice would be very much appreciated.

thanks

Ish

If you followed the wiki's nLite instructions word for word (or picture by picture) and disabled the "background intelligent transfer service" then this might be the cause of windows update not working...

http://www.blackvipe...fer_Service.htm

The above link describes what happens when you remove/disable this service....

Also, please read all the comments on the topic that the wiki instructions were based on:

We can't just re-enable it? I really don't feel like going through the whole process again.

nLite removes, not disables such things. There's nothing left on your install of Windows to enable -- it's completely gone.

nLite does not have incremental installs. From http://www.nliteos.com/faq.html#Q9 (emphasis mine):

Can i add things back once they have been removed?
While you can't add things back to an nLited installation, you can use an original Windows installation source and import a previous session to further refine the selections made in that previous session. To do this, manually specify the source installation as you did before, allow nlite to perform the copy, and remember to import the .ini file from the previously-created session.
