I hope to hell this thing increases the clock speed! Gonna flash it in sometime...
U can pick it up from here:

Be careful when flashing your bios - you can easily end up bricking your EEE if you aren't careful.
Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life.

Well flash completed!
Unfortunately, nothing good OR bad to report...it's as if there's no change at all! But one thing that seems very interesting is the change log included in the ZIP file. It's interesting to see the additions/deletions made to the 2G Surf bios. Of special note is that in bios version 0124, Asus REMOVED the ACPI Frequency/Voltage adjustment feature. So maybe overclocking the 2G is just a matter of finding hidden BIOS strings/writing new strings rather than modifying the clockgen physically.
And until the previous version, the 2G Surf actually had the 1024x768 resolution coded into it's vbios...not that it's a particularly useable resolution.
Here is the entire change log for thoe who can't/don't want to download the zip:

Plus, now, my wifi is really, really unreliable - practically useless! I tried selecting the previous package, got the same message, and the wifi is still horrible.

Having now read up on the manual process to update the BIOS, I'm giving that a try. I don't know why it failed before, but, well, an Eee without proper wifi is a bit pointless. What am I going to do, sit there playing solitaire?

Same here; my 2G surf has never had any updates available ever, and now the new bios can't read bios image file.

Ok I dunno what you guys are doing, but this is what I did:
1) Downloaded the .zip file and extracted it.
2) Started the Asus Update tool that came in the cd
3) Selected "Update from file" and pointed to the .ROM file I just extracted.
4) Followed the on-screen instructions from there on (Just clicked OK to let it reboot).
....and it pretty much took it from there. And like i reported earlier, absolutely nothing changed. Although it feels like it boots a TAD bit faster..maybe a second or 2 at best.

I was a proud owner of the 701 for two days. Unfortunately for the first time in my life I read the instruction manual, and got to the page that say upgrade bios....press a few buttons and then a blank screen. The only sign of life of this unit is the yellow and blue lights.
I called Anus support line, emailed their repairs department but no reply, thats two weeks ago.
Anyone experienced similar fate as me?
