The eeePC/F8 HowTo is excellent, I highly recommend it. I can confirm that the kernel driver update does indeed include the wired lan support. In addition under the video support external monitor does work with no changes required in the X configuration setup. I didn't have to push fn-f5. As soon as you plug in a external monitor the port is on, I have 1280x1024 resolution on a 19" flat panel. When moving on/off the monitor I simply restart X with a ctrl-alt-backspace and the little eeePC screen returns to its normal size. If a external monitor is plugged in the eeePC screen goes into virtual mode only showing the upper left section of the much higher resolution external flat panel.
I have switched my window manager to open box to save CPU cycles plus this is my default window manager. My only regret with Fedora is that I only have 843MB of disk space on the 4 GB SSD drive. I do have a 8 GB SDHC flash installed so I am not not hurting for space yet. The Fedora install has many more programs than the default Xandros OS like a C compiler. Plus I feel more comfortable with Fedora than Xandros. The unionFS crap was driving me crazy! As I get more comfortable with Fedora on the eeePC I am sure I can reduce its disk space footprint.

I installed the normal Fedora 8 DVD with an IDE-DVD-Reader connected via USB.
I had to start the installation in text mode to get the customized package selection started. In graphic mode I could not find a button for this.
I did this to deselect gnome desktop and select kde desktop. switching from gnome to kde after installation is not easily done.

Perhaps I was too blinded to find the button ;-)
After installing the LAN and Wifi Driver Fedora 8 works great on the eeePC!
