PL23-901 battery vs. AL23-901 battery in Asus 1000HE Eee PC

Last year, I purchased an AL23-901 battery directly from a China distributor for my 1000HE and it did not work. The battery would not 'click' into the back of the netbook nor did it make power contact. It LOOKED exactly the same but appeared to be a tiny bit too short from the connector to back of battery where arc started.
I have seen information elsewhere indicating the AL23 and PL23 batteries WILL both work in my 1000HE. Before I buy a second AL23 to try, can someone please verify they have tried it and the AL23 battery does indeed work in their 1000HE?
I looked through many pages of this forum and could not find this subject. Please forgive me if I missed an earlier post.
Kind Regards to you all,
Marshall

But you have to watch where you get it from if ordering directly from China. You may have gotten a mislabeled battery.
Though if you prefer the PL23-901 is available from the Asus eStore under item #90-OA003B8000, but it's pricey at $179.99

Thank you for the quick and detailed reply. I am buying directly from China, and they have assured me (as you just have) that the PL and AL are interchangeable. Now that I have heard the same from you, I believe I may have been sent a 'bad' sample last year.
Going directly to Asus and paying half the price of my netbook for a battery is not an attractive proposition, even though it may eventually end up being the only choice I have.
Again, thank you for your quick response.....
Kind Regards

I ordered an AL23 13Ahr from China. I figure if it doesn't work, I have a 10" portable DVD player which runs on an external 7.2V Li-Ion battery. It came with 2.8Ahr batt which runs for almost 2hrs. The 13Ahr may velcro nicely to the back of the DVD player! LOL
THANK YOU ALL for your help with this. I will post when my order arrives and let you all know the results. I suppose I will need to worry about fires now. So many Li-Ion batts out there catching fire. A 13Ahr is 100WHr which can gen lots of heat in a short time.
Regards.....

So just look at the Specs and make sure they match. . . 7.2v, 8700mAh, 62Wh or 2.9Ah (it's a different measurement from the 8700mAh). If any other figures or no figures are given then avoid it.

I just got my 13AHr AL23-901 and just like the one I tried a year ago, it did not push all the way
into my Netbook, did not click into place, and it did not make any contact electrically.
So zeo.........
You said you have swapped the PL and AL batteries. Were you using both batts in a 1000HE? I have a brand new 13AHr AL23-901 for $90, anyone interested in buying it??????!!!!!!!
I have an external charger. It plugs into the connector of the battery and then the 12V power pack plugs into
the adapter. The new 13AHr battery is charging right now. So, it appears to be OK, just won't work in my
1000HE.

The only version of the side extending version that fits the 1000HE is the 12000mAh battery from battery1inc...
http://www.battery1i.../B001OWG0V6.htm
The other versions will only fit the 901/1000 models, not sure about the 1000H or 1000HD. But I have the one from Battery1inc and can confirm that it works and I have tried the other version before and confirm it does not fit the 1000HE.
Btw, you can get it to fit by filing down the extensions on either side. It's what keeping the connector from reaching the socket.

So, the one link you gave with the 'winged' battery DOES fit the 1000HE, right? Would you happen to have a link to a non-winged high-cap battery which would work in my 1000HE? The one I tried last year had no wings but went 'below' the unit giving the keyboard a nice angle. BUT, it would not slide all the way in or make contact so I had to send it back too.
Let me know if you have a link to a non-winged high-cap. And thank you so much for all your help with this!

Or you could get a replacement PL23-901, http://www.provantag...00~7ASUL0JQ.htm
You'll just get more hits by looking by the Asus Item# 90-OA003B8000. . .
The AL23-901 AL24-1000 8800mAh doesn't stick out too much and as long as you get the curved version then it won't block the screen from being pushed all the way back.
This one for example works, I've used it, http://www.amazon.co...65704368&sr=8-3
But check the battery1inc website as they may be out of stock right now.
I can also confirm that the 6600mAh AL23-901 replacement batteries will also fit the 1000HE.
And here's a 12000mAh that extends down, http://www.amazon.co...5704511&sr=8-24
Haven't tried this one myself and never got a battery from that seller but that's the version that should fit as is.
Personally, if you're looking for capacity greater than the original then the Mugen is your best bet. Many of these replacement batteries don't use high quality cells and are bigger than they need to be but Mugen is high quality.
Otherwise consider a charge adapter like this, http://www.battery1i.../B002EA936Q.htm
And just use lower capacity battery and keep a spare charged for longer runs.

I actually bought that external battery charger and paid about $25US. I don't think it works properly. It says it will work up to 36W which is 3A at 12V. BUT, using my power supply, it shows only 0.2A (200mA) of charging current. I don't understand this. If I place the battery in the netbook and charge it, my power supply shows 2.1A going into the battery. This is what I would expect from the external charger. Oh well, at least I have successfully gotten a high-cap battery to work in my 1000HE!
Thanks again for all your help with this. I hope I can help someone with their netbook some day.
BTW, I have upgraded to 2GB RAM and a 320GB hard drive. Still running the XP Home.
Kindest Regards..........
