I used to have a 1000HE and there was a keyboard shortcut that was programmed to one of the function keys (from memory) that would let the touchpad toggle off and on. I've now got a 1000HG and it doesn't have this function. I'm wondering if anyone would know if the program that does that on the 1000HE would work on the 1000HG and what that program was. Also, what was the function key that did it?
Thanks heaps.

The key for touchpad was fn + F3.
Also, Fn + F4 does screen resolution, Fn + Space does the Super Hybris Engine modes.
I think it was the ACPI driver that controls that, but i could be wrong.

Had a go with the registry - the 1000HG doesn't have the mouse reference like the link to the other discussion has. Tried doing reg file for turning off if usb mouse plugged in (as per the elantra tab in the mouse properties) but that doesn't work as the reg file doesn't refresh the system. Does anyone know how to refresh the system without rebooting?
Does anyone know if the ACPI does the touchpad like Eeetastic thinks? If it does, where can I get it and does anyone think there would be any issues in putting a program designed for 1000HE on a 1000HG? I'm just really amazed that it and the other FN keys were dropped off on this model - why? Not like the key is being used for anything else.
Thanks heaps for all the help, assistance and advice. I love these little eee pcs!

Well, I just uninstalled the ACPI drivers, rebooted, and installed the 1000HE ACPI driver (right clicked the msi and selected install). Still nothing on the F3 or F4 button. Any other ideas what it might be?

Well, even transplanting the 1000HE keyboard hasn't allowed the Fn+F3 option to work. May be a BIOS issue and not just the ACPI drivers.
So getting back to other possibilities, do you have Synaptic or Elantech drivers installed?
You may only have the basic drivers and that would explain why you don't have the options in the registry. The 1000HE used Elantech but you'll have to test whether your 1000HG can use the same or may need the Synaptic drivers instead. Either one should give you options for disabling the touchpad and once you find them you can make a script and then create a keyboard shortcut for it.

Thanks Zeo. It uses the Elantech drivers but I'm just grabbing the ones from the 1000he site and will try installing them to see if any difference. I've even thought if i can find a way to .reg or .bat it, I can assign it to the speed keys up the top but it has to be able to refresh the system (cause standard regedit wants a reboot).

Well, if you can't get a script working then you can use this method, http://news.cnet.com...0222948-68.html
Takes a few extra steps, instead of a simple key combination, but works.
But you may find a better option in this topic, http://forum.eeeuser....php?pid=398137

Tried the second option there - doesn't work for me as I get errors when I try. Will check out the cnet option. Also tried the 1000HE touchpad drivers on the 1000HG to see if the trick is in there, but no. Not game to load the 1000HE bios onto the 1000HG as it might all go pear shaped and kill my PC.
It's really starting to look like it can't be done on the 1000HG :( Come on Asus, surely this can be done some how!?

Thanks for all your help, I really do appreciate it. Tried this and the Elantech Touchpad says it can't be disabled :(

Touchpad firmware may not allow it, but you can still try Synaptic instead of Elantech.

I'll track down some drivers and see what happens. I'll let you know. Again, thank so much for the help and advice.
