I'm taking a long flight this summer and wondered if there is a way to install a light weight, power saving operating system on my EEEPC 900? (...im assuming the operating system affects battery usage but might be wrong)

I want to use it for gaming only -- i guess the older dos games (civilisation etc...) . At the moment Win XP is on my 4gb C:\ drive and keeps sapping the disk space. I've managed to get about 1gb free... Then there's the slightly larger 8gb d:\ and the plugin SD card g:\ (2gb)

Any thoughts would be great...

If you want to play older DOS games and want a specific OS for it, go ahead and install DOS. XP will give better battery life, as would Windows 7, but most games are made for windows, what with it being the big player and all. Stick with XP if you ask me.

There's a Linux live-CD for gamers only, you don't have to install anything, as it's a live CD: http://live.linux-gamers.net/
You might give it a try.List of supported games: http://live.linux-gamers.net/?s=games

If you mean 'is it possible to use a USB flash device as a live CD', the answer is yes. I usually use Unetbootin on Windows to generate a bootable USB key from an .iso file.
