I am currently testing this at work ... for personal use though :) ... thingking of buying one for home and had the opportunity to use the one my boss had.

I like it .... with Win7 ... the XP Home sucks in my opinion.

I tried the win7 virtual keyboard ... and it is (ofcourse) much better than the one provided by Motorola/Asus. But it doesn't autohide when not needed :( ... at least I haven't found ANY options that allows for this.

I have found a nice jukebox program to use which seems to cover most of my needs, and I guess Media Center and Media Player can handle the rest.

I did install Win7 on the D-drive (in case my boss wanted to use XP for something) and dual boot works fine, except the keyboard doesn't work until windows is started. Anyone else had this problem?? ... this means that I can't switch between my two OS.

If you download Ireboot you can shutdown->boot into different os without having to manually pick from the os boot chooser.

keyboard at startup: I had the same problem; changing the bios to "usb input" on solves the problem (found the solution on another discussion on this forum). Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Sadly my bios must be very old (2.61 or 2.67) because I simply do not have no option for "USB Input" ... but if I enter bios (keyboard works for that) and just exit and save without changing anything, the keyboard works in the dual boot screen ... but only for that boot. Next time I restart the PC, the keyboard doesn't work anymore.

I guess I should try to update the bios at some point if I need to. For now it is just nice to know of a work-around if I really need to get hold of the XP boot :)

Just a thought: there was something about 'fast boot' as well; you had to turn it off (basically meaning showing an EEE top logo at startup), to make it work! My bios MUST be an old one, too; I have one of the first EEE tops, never updated bios; and USB keyboard at dual boot startup works fine for me!
Good luck again!

Although redundant, posted earlier, but as You ask for; installation of Win 7 RC is really very easy, straightforward, don't worry about DVD burning/ USB stick installation; I have installed win 7 RC in about one hour time, just unpacked with winrar into a new folder on the C drive; running setup from XP desktop installed win 7 on the D drive (advanced setup, dual boot configariotan!), in a dual boot configuration; works like a charm, with dual boot at startup screen for XP (I use it for my old banking software only) or Win 7. Touchscreen works even better than with XP/EEE software, very fast!
Don't have pics, but if I have some spare time, shall try to post some screenshots!
Good luck!

I just used an external HDD. I basically just copied the files from the installtion CD to the HDD and ran setup from there. So if you have one, you can use that. I am pretty sure any USB disk can be used for this.

Windows 7 is much much better than the XP home it will be delivered with. Just increase the icon and text size and the desttop is fairly touch-friendly. Don't worry about "loosing" Easy Mode when installing a new Windows. In my opinion that application (delivered by Asus) sucks really bad. You can find many nice applications that are free, online. Check out the Application thread here for a few ideas.

hiho,
i installed w7 yesterday - works very well :-)
only one unknown device (intel 82801 gbm lpc interface controller). is there a driver for that device and for what ist that device needed?

some silly questions:
how can you make a double click? i put the ext. keyboard and press return :-(

i increase the icons and text size to 150 % - looks very good. but now some windows are to big. i am not able to click at the button OK or CANCLE.

@stormendk
which application threas did you mean?

I have no unknown devices in mine ... in the Win7 beta it couldn't find the network card, but in RC1 I have had no trouble getting things to work (so far).

The application thread is this one: http://forum.eeeuser...ic.php?id=56877

Not much is posted there yet, but some of it might be of interest for you (or if you find something cool, post it).

1. as soon as you switch on your PC, hold down the F2 key ... that should start the bios ... if that doesn't work (Asus likes to use a boot booster which makes it difficult to get into the bios), let it boot up and then press the power button ... that should give you the eee PC boot window where you have time to press F2.

You only need to start up the bios (i seem to have read somewhere) for it to recognize that you have extra ram in it. Then you should be able to just Exit and Save and have Windows know about the 2Gb Ram.

2. When in the bios, switch off boot booster. This will make your keyboard work in dual boot.

I just installed Windows 7 on my eeetop 1602.
One unknown device.

Microphone, hardware buttons and spec (FN) keys on keyboard does not work.

Are there any drivers out there for these issues?
